what impact does this have on your resale given the new engine has a different number to the original compliance plate?
+1 if you have a 2010 model just about to run out of warranty I'd be onto it pretty quick.
I wonder what the cost of replacing the tensioner is?
For those out of warranty it may be a worthwhile investment/insurance policy just to get this changed before a catastrophic failure. Even though VW should probably foot the bill it's likely they won't do a recall now (even though it is a know issue due to change of component).
hmmmm

Providing it's done legally then none. I would say that the dealer will follow the correct *procedure and make sure that they give you the right information to update the relevant departments (insurance included). This is what happened to my friends mum when she had her engine replaced in her Tig (put petrol in a diesel). Aside from VW replacing the engine under warranty (go figure) they made sure she had the right information to update the DPI (or whatever you call it in your state) and her insurance company (not that I think most insurance companies take the Engine # down).
The rattling I'm getting is only brief at startup while the tensioner oil pressure comes up but has become more apparent since the last service about 2,000km ago..... I thought the oil filter had a non return valve in them to reduce the chance of the oil draining back into the sump, it should hold it's pressure......
I went down the coast today (good hour long run) then stopped for 30 minutes, even after that short stop the tensioner had lost it's oil pressure and rattled briefly on startup.... never used to do that!!

Yuk, not good newsSo I presume Tigs built 2011 on should have had this corrected at the factory?

Tiggy1, apparently engines built from June 2010 onwards have the version2 update tensioners in them...... yours should be fine....

Phew, that‘s a relief - thanks
Hope you can get yours sorted while still under warranty!
Further to this & after 1 more quick visit to the dealers to resolve a hideous scraping sound when cornering (turned out to be a slightly bent backing plate behind LHS front rotor, probably the tow-truck drivers fault), everything seems to A++ now! Have done 1000k's on the new motor & about to move interstate (Newcastle) so want it to be good before i leave Melbourne...
The only strange thing: You know that sound when you turn the key on, but don't start the engine (TSI) - sort of a 2 second "zsshhhhhhht", not sure exactly what it is, fuel pump maybe? Well, my car now makes that sound sometimes merely by opening the drivers door! Without the key even in the ignition! Have noticed it happen half a dozen times in the last week & a half.
Any ideas?
