Black TIGUAN 125 TSI finally arrived - a few questions

    Hi Gang...

After nearly a six month wait my Black TIGUAN 125 TSI finally arrived. Very happy with the way it looks as I went to town on the extra's... love the side steps, 18" New York wheels and very large sun roof.

    A few queries...

    1. In regards to the Sat Nav, it sounds as if it doesn't state the actually street names (eg. Turn Right at George Street), is this correct? I find this strange as my $300 Tom Tom can perform this.

    2. Am I correct in stating you cannot copy MP3's from a USB drive to the Dynaudio local HDD. The way I read this and after testing it looks like this is only achieveable via DVD/CD/Memory card. (Also only FAT as opposed to NTFS is a pain) It looks like it plays M3U playlists even though it doesn't state in the Owners Manual.

    3. Am I missing something in regards to having access from the steering wheel to use the up/down functions to toggle between music? The volume control works but I can't see how to toggle between tracks from the steering wheel.

    4. Not that I will use it but is there a trick to getting DVD to stay on when driving over 15km/hr? (or whatever it is when it turns off). I saw a tip on one post however this didn't work. So if you had a passenger and it turns off the picture when over 15km/hr, when it comes back on at the traffic lights for example, is this legal or not? TV reception is also an option I would imagine, sometimes even the sound would come in handy for sporting commentary.

    5. Does anyone have issues with their iPod using the AUX-IN, this is only temp solution until the iPod media cable arrives in stock (3 weeks apparently). My iPod has rebooted a couple of times and frozen, not sure if this is the iPod or usual behaviour.

    My Specs:

    PARK ASSIST WITH RVC PLUS
    Front Fog Lights
    Comfort Package
    Alloy Wheels 18' New York
    Panoramic Electric G/Sunroof
    Satellite Nav w/Dynaudio
    Media Device Interface (MDI)
    Anti-Theft Alarm
    Black Leather Upholstery+Front SSeat

Media In IPod Cable (out of stock at present)
    Front/Rear Steel Scuff Plates
    Rear Tailgate Strip-Chrome
    Front/Rear Textile Mat Set-Blk
    Cargo Mat
    Side Step Kit

    Thanks in advance,
    Johnno

Wow you really spec'd it out.

    1) i believe the australian names are quite difficult to pronounce so it just says directions, happy to be proven wrong though.

    2) can't comment as i don't have an OEM unit.

    3) the steering wheel will allow music changes if you select the music MFD display with the right hand side steering controls.

    4) I believe VW rememdied the DVD in motion glitch that was allowed in previous firmware so dvd can't be played in motion and is highly illegal.

    5) The apple products tend to have issues as they are only designed for use with other apple products.
I have heard the latest iphone update makes it incompatible with most blutooth kit's.

    Congratulations on your new car
    In response to your questions

    1. In regards to the Sat Nav, it sounds as if it doesn't state the actually street names (eg. Turn Right at George Street), is this correct? I find this strange as my $300 Tom Tom can perform this.

It will only announce major arterial roads by their designation eg A18 etc and not their names. No luck with smaller streets. The audio instructions are sometime wrong as there are errors on the map.Sometime it will say turn left when there is a right hand turn. and displayed correctly on the map as right hand turn.

Correct, there is no way other than transferring to dvd or SD and then onto the HDD

    3. Am I missing something in regards to having access from the steering wheel to use the up/down functions to toggle between music? The volume control works but I can't see how to toggle between tracks from the steering wheel.

Team V is correct, use the right hand buttons once you have selected Music in the MDF.You can only select go up or down one track at a time

No this is not legal. The car has to be stationary. You could get fined if you happened to be next to a cop car as you were pulling away from the lights.I have this function and it is very very distracting. Not worth your life and dont even persue it. As for TV, reception is very dodgy and effectively useless when moving.Just buy a ipod touch or iphone or other media system.

    5. Does anyone have issues with their iPod using the AUX-IN, this is only temp solution until the iPod media cable arrives in stock (3 weeks apparently). My iPod has rebooted a couple of times and frozen, not sure if this is the iPod or usual behaviour.

The aux in is entirely passive. It will have no effect on your ipod. You had better call Steve Jobs.PM me if you need his mobile number

    Hey mate,

I probably just missed it, but did you get Manual or Auto? I presume you got manual, and optioned it up, otherwise you would have prob just got a 147tsi?
    Gotta love the manual!

Thanks for the responses greatly appreciated!

I actually got the automatic... have always had a manual but wanted to be lazy with the auto. I guess I was thinking the tiptronic would be a bit more useful than it looks at present - haven't tried it out yet.

As for the tyres... good question I will have to have a look and let you know. I just had to avoid pizza-cutters.

Never heard of Champion tyres myself. Let us know where are they made? It should be on the tyre side wall. If you google it you, find that some Champion tyres are made in China. I hope our Tig comes on Hankooks.
