Bi-Xenon lights - is it worth it??

In process of selecting options for Tiguan 125tsi. Need advice on whether the bi-xenon lights are worth paying an extra $2000. What is the cost involved in replacing the bulb?
Or do u think that fog lights @ $400 is a much better option for extra light during late/long drives.
    Cheers

Once you've driven a car with Bi-Xenon, you won't look back. Your eyes will thank you during those late long drives, the high intensity is a blessing for tired eyes. Fog light will not compare to a Bi Xenon light. I rarely switch on my fog light as there's no need for extra lighting. BiX on the Tig also includes swiveling and cornering light (secondary bulb) which is fantastic when taking a corner.

Just a note, the bix system on Tiguan does not include secondary high beam, so if you need to flash someone during the day, the xenon will light up, not recomended as frequent on off cycle will shorten the bulb's life considerably.

Under normal circumstances, the life span of the bulb should equal the car itself. No Idea with the pricing of replacement bulbs, you can do a search for D2S (I think) bulbs.

To think about it, it's one of the best safety feature a car can have.

For me, the look itself is worth it:

That grey with BIX looks awesome. I wanted BIX with my Black 125TSI but I would have had to wait 6 months.

x2. Now I've got them I'll never be able to go back (which in itself might be a problem! ). So much brighter, so much better at throwing light all around the front of the car. And the cornering xenons on the Tig are even better (my old lady's got them on hers) than my Golf ones.

I don't think they are worth 2K but that's me. Find it hard to justify 2K for lights. Unless you were driving lots and lots during the night then maybe.

They are also not going to add much if anything to resale.

I have to agree with this. If they were $1,000 I'd snap them up but they just are too expensive like most VW options. Having said that I love having all the options to choose from unlike most other cars.

Without reservation best option I ever got on a car. I drive a 200km return trip to work and return late at night. If you do long drives with night country driving they are the best thing safety wise you can buy, even in town it is surprising how many times I find myself appreciating the side lights in the car. I owned a Citroen that had these many years ago but the BiX lights are even better. As a suggestion, if you are in the market for a new car try to find one that is optioned with them and that might give you some leeway in bargaining for a price. (The headlight washers and their self levelling function are something else too no one has mentioned. They are worth the money for the technology)

Thanks for the response guys! I personally think they look beautiful and it's a bonus for night driving!!

Is it true that the new led day lights for tig 2012 model comes only with bi-xenons and not as a standard inclusion?

I think that is true. Look at the 2012 specs on the VW site.
