    Auto Tailgate

Hi All. I see on this YouTube video that the Tiguan can have an auto tailgate. Does anyone know if this can be retrofitted?

That IS a retrofit, there is no factory fit.

Well the Touareg has it, as does the new Subaru Forester, so it can't be too difficult to offer on the Tiguan. Maybe they're saving it for the Mk II, like they're saving keyless start, memory seat position, and a few other tricks to give it that Wow! factor at launch.

PS: If you translate the German comments under the video it says that particular conversion was a one-off experiment, and the company who did it (not VW) won't be offering it commercially.

I've never seen one on any car. I presume it works by controlling the length of the struts, rather than a motor driving the hinges. Does anyone know if these electrically controlled struts are readily available?

Here's a photo of what it looks like on a Forester. You can see top left there's a dedicated third strut connected to what must be a motor/hydraulic pump in that bulge inside the cargo compartment. Doesn't look like an easy retrofit...

And here's a video of a Touareg, and you can see it doesn't have a third strut and is an altogether neater solution...

Thanks PerthMTB, that is very cool. Some electrics involved, but looks like the major component in the Toureg is the struts, and this Stabilus product might be the answer. Pity they are not avaiable for retrofitting.

Ammmmmm Tiguan already has keyless entry and start and has had memory seats in some markets since 2008 !! It also had self parking in 2008 and a 6 speed auto (now 7) that were absolute firsts as well !! It also has available cruise control that uses radar for following other cars, self dipping headlights, lane departure warning etc etc etc !!!

Not so unfortunately - about the only available option on the Oz 155 R-Line is the panoramic roof otherwise they come with the standard fruit of an R Line but strangely miss out on Xenons, keyless entry, electric seats (other than the driver's seat) adaptable cruise control.......... still a damn nice and useful little car though with the APR Stage 1 and gearbox software mods.
