Probably the motor that drives the handbrake mechanism. I don't really use auto hold but I'll check next time I do. Is it the same sound as when you turn the hand brake on manually?
has anyone been using the auto hold feature in a Tiguan?
there's seem to a soft high pitch sound when I turn on my "auto hold". it can be heard when the it is in use of course (idling or stopping at lights).
anyone experiencing the same issue?

It would be the motor pulling on the handbrake that you hear, though I am surprised you can hear it above the idle.
Its a clever mechanism, though pointless in an auto. In fact, it made take off a little jerky when I've played with it.
I assume it will become more relevant as a roll precaution when idle-stop versions are released (my guess - no insider info here)
EDIT: no motor - refer below, still some tricks the Tiguan is revealing

HAte to say it guys BUT the handbrake isn't activated with the auto-hold, it's all done with the ABS. If you try you'll notice that you don't get the rear "jacking" and releasing as you would with the handbrake. All that happens is that when you've stopped the ABS "holds" the brake setting as it is. So, not sure what you can hear (I don't hear a sound using auto-hold in mine) but it isn't the handbrake motor.
Cheers

Derek's right, it's the ABS that holds the wheels, that's why some people complain about the creaking sound (seems that the brakes hold at the pressure you applied when you pulled up, so if you didn't push down hard enough, the brakes may not quite be holding - or only just). Mine makes a small noise as I pull up and then when I take off and the brakes are released.
Maybe try pushing your foot down harder when you pull up and stop - then see what happens.

Good info Derek, I just assumed it worked on the hand brake, I think i've only used it once to make sure it worked![]()

Can't say I've heard any noise of mine.
I use it quite regularly in traffic... and it is great!

am i correct that you have to turn the auto-hold on each time you get in the car, if so do you think there would be any drawback in being able to have it on all the time?

Yes you have to engage it every time you turn the car on.
Is a shame there is no default ON
