    Auto gearbox being weird

    Hi All,

hopefully this is a simple issue.
The other day I noticed the gears were being held on for a long time, like it was in sport mode - it would be holding onto 3rd at 60. I thought it might have been a DPF regen, except I had been out on a long freeway run that morning.
Its kept on doing it and today I've driven to Nowra - on the freeway it was holding onto 5th at 110 - it would eventually kick down to 6th and on hills would go down to 4th.
So this seems like its stuck in a sport mode.

Anyhow, going down the pass into Kangaroo Valley it wouldn't do ANY engine braking - normally you touch the brakes and it kicks the gears down for you - it was staying in high gears and letting me coast down the hill...
anyone had anything like this happen? Should I be going to the dealer for a check?

Sounds as if somethings gone AWOL in your gearbox programming to me. As you say it does sound as if it's "stuck" in sports mode. What gear is it starting off in ? first (sports mode) or second (normal drive mode) ? Anyway, sounds as if it needs a "look at".

    Cheers

Thanks Derek, its definitely getting booked in. Today on drive back it was sometimes normal and sometimes not. On the freeway on cruise control at 110 it kept dropping down to 4th to maintain the speed. Ended up putting it into manual shift. Then on end of freeway got a parking brake error, this went away. Also been getting an intermittent ESP error. Definitely got some gremlins...

Not sure if the gearbox "learns" a couple of times recently I've had it in manual mode and then forgotten about it, when you start from a standstill it changes gears for you but not till about 4500 rpm - I'm wondering if the computer thinks I want to be driving really aggressively and that's why the gearbox is being weird...

Sorry to hear of these issues mate. I bet it was frustrating too when driving over mt cambewarra and kangaroo valley!! That is such a great drive if all is going well, (and if not stuck behind a pale blue camry....but thats another issue)

I would def get the car to the dealer ASAP and give them a thorough run down of the issues. It may not show up properly unless they drive it for a while too, so dont let them fob you off quickly. My experience is that they just plug things in and say "cant find an error code" etc and close the case.

Is it an Auto or the new DSG?

Took mine to the dealer where they fixed the ESP error, the handbrake error and are ordering in a part for the gearbox (which they have never replaced before).
They've changed my MFD where previously I had an option to have the Autohold "always on" to not have this - now if you turn it on it is always on unless you turn it off. I will have to ask about this when they do the gearbox.
Somehow I feel the extended warranty will well and truly pay for itself in time.
