Sanman how are you going with this camera.I have found the toureg camera from oskar is a exact fit for the licence plate light fitting.I presume this will also be the same ???? for this camera and the tiguan so it will just be a choice on the profile of the camera.Correct me if I am wrong.

This is the camera I have on order from Oskar. He is having supply problems. Will update when I recv the camera

Hey Sanman, how did you go with your install? Are you happy with the camera? Does the wiper unit supply the constant 12V you thought it did? Does this mean your camera is "always on"?

I wired up the Passat camera OK. Feeds fine off the rear wiper power, and it runs to the front using the 'spare' antenna coax (as the Waywell/AVC9000-1 unit uses only the whip antenna on the roof, not the rear glass antenna). Picture quality is fine after you apply the 'reverse camera' patch. For some annoying reason the radio mutes when in reverse.
My Camera is set constantly powered (the wiper motor has power when the ignition is on), although you can use the 'reverse light wire' that came with the camera to power it only in reverse. This not necessary, as the head unit turns on the camera picture when reverse is selected by monitoring the canbus. You can select the camera at any time though Source icons/buttons (keeps the kids amused)
So technically, all green lights, you can install a reverse camera by removing two screws and unclipping 4 pieces of trim on the tailgate.
The Passat Camera doesn't fit properly, and hangs down a bit low. Looks ugly.
I have ordered a Polo camera (like this http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showpo...postcount=4085) , and although this also does not fit quite right, I think it will be acceptable. Another week or two for the finished install.

It may be because the Tig that comes with the reversing camera also has front and rear parking sensors, so it mutes the radio so that you can hear them (the sensors). In the RCD/RNS510 you can set the level of mute to suit yourself but I don't know if you can do that with an aftermarket unit ?

Thanks for the info given so far, it's been great. I got my headunit put in today, but did not get the reverse camera put in as I didn't have the time. After your posts I figured I could attempt doing it myself. I just have a couple more questions though.

With the removing the boot lid trim, do you have a guide on how to do this by any chance? Or would you be willing to tell me how I can do it so I don't damage anything trying to figure it out myself?

Secondly, my headunit comes with the integrated digital TV tuner, but the antenna that come with it is pathetic. Do you have any idea whether the rear window antenna that isn't used by the WD6050 would make a goot digital TV antenna?

Not quite there yet, I'll publish something when I get the final install done.
The recessed finger grips that you use to close the tailgate has a cover and T20 torx screws. Remove them. There is a trim piece on the inner upper side of the tailgate. This is held by spring clips. Pull it firmly out at 45 deg pull to the window plane. Do the same for the side trim pieces, start with pulling the trim out near the top piece you have just removed, as the lower area has a tang connecting into the main large trim piece. Find an edge and pull at the main tailgate trim, working your way around the clips. Collect the spring clips if they jump out and reinsert before you lose them. Do not remove and reapply the trims lest the clips become loose. Leave the trim stored somewhere safe until you're ready to close it all up finally.
Oskar (Joe) says the internal digital TV card does not perform acceptably and recommends an external one. Digital TV signal strength is weak in Aust metro.and never really will work well. There are some really big stick on boosted antennas out there which would improve the performance-to marginal.

Here's the photos I have to date, focussing on the Fakra Plugs and sockets. Run the camera signal up to the radio using cable from the glass antenna (not used for the Waywell/AVC unit). I don't like cutting cables, so I have made up adaptors - called Fakra "Z" (Z means no keying, as VW uses non-standard keying)

Where to connect in power from the rear tailgate wiper - use the outside two wires of the connector.
All wiper motors have a "park" wire providing power when the ignition is on. It is used to power the motor to return the arm to the "park" position when power is removed mid-wipe (even if the wiper stalk has been subsequently turned off)
I direct-soldered, you may wish to use cable crimps. Photo shows wiper connector on the bottom of the wiper motor body, Negative on the left, positive on the right


EDIT: Work stopped on this project for two reasons:
1. Had a flat battery overnight, I have pulled out the AVC9000-1 and installed the OEM radio, so I can determine if it was related to the AVC9000-1
2. Now summer is almost here, the Tiguan's high stereo mounting position makes the glare on the screen almost impractical

You should consider posting this as its own thread as there in no guide on the net at all for tig owners.Looks easy now but so easy no one has thought to post before
