300 for install is pretty steep,

The Front and rear mud flaps alone genuine only costed me $50 from dealer... (austral vw) Surely install is not that expensive!!!

tj9630, why not spend 2 hours, save $300 & DIY? Can't see how it would be a difficult task...

just save yourself all this time, hassles and worry re questionable quality...

Go with the genuines, get them fitted by the dealer, and every time you look back at the car you will be happy you did so!
After all you will be keeping this for several years right?

so $300 divided by say 4 years works out at a few cents a day....

ask yourself, what is my time worth to source and then fit the aftermarket ones?...then what if I have a hassle fitting them, or they are of crap quality as philsan said...?

Get the dealer to supply and fit, then they will provide the assurance they were fitted properly, and that they are the correct size and quality...

It really is not a complicated choice in my opinion.

we are not talking Thousands of dollars...

It is a $40 th car after all! treat it like a quality car...

Just digging up this thread as I'm looking to get some OEM mudflaps and wondering if anyone else is interested.

Will price these up locally as well as from a couple of overseas suppliers.

For the Skoda I just buy the $20/set posted ones off ebay. They look OEM. When they start to look tatty from banging into parking bollards I buy a new set.

tiguan units look like they are $40/set on eBay.

Just priced the mud guards up from the local VW Parts dept and they are $110 for fronts and $110 for rears (i.e. $220 for the set).

Can understand why they were charging $300 fitted.

I know the made in China ones will probably do the job but if I'm going to be screwing things into the body of my car I'd rather it be OEM.

Also priced up a chrome boot strip for $99 from the dealer which I'm seriously considering. Individual freight on these things from overseas is a killer.
