I know he'll have to ship it across, and he did say that the 1k for that is factored in.
He's giving me only the mats and tinting, and the number plate for free... and the minimal extras are all factory installed.

What do I do now? So wish I found this forum 24 hours ago.
I won't call it a rip off, since the dealer is throwing in some freebies on top of the retail price.

Deposits can be refunded depending on circumstances. In my case, delivery of the Tiguan 147TSI was delayed by almost a month longer than the Estimated Delivery Date. I contacted the Dealer Principal (upon Team_V's advise) and almost immediately, the Sales Manager offered a full refund of the deposit as an option. I took that option and bought something else instead.

    Hi PMS,

I'm sorry to throw my two cents in, but I kinda agree that the price of $50 is too high.

The things he is throwing in are not real big ticket items anyway, so dont be fooled by that. Mats, tint etc are not worth that much, and the premium NSW plates are supposed to be standard on new delivered VWs anyway. It is only fleet or second hand cars that tend to get the canary plates.

We are not trying to bag dealers either, or make them out to be crooks. We have a few dealers on this forum anyway who are very helpful.

But remember the old saying that goes something like this: "if the seller and buyer are happy, then it is a good deal". You seem to have struck a relationship with him, and if that translates to a succesful ongoing relationship throughout the life of your car and its servicing, then it may be ok.

If you are really concerned though, try kindly negotiating an arrangement that your first two services be thrown in (or similar) as you have now been offered a better deal elsewhere for the car purchase. If he really wants to keep you happy, then the services are the least he will do.

    Nah mate... it was Belconnen.
I honestly believed him when he said it was a squeeze for 50k, and when challenged yesterday he suggested he could throw in a boot mat.
If anybody on here could find me a white or black Tiguan auto, ideally with Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Comfort pack, rear view camera and even park assist perhaps, I'd jump at any of the 3 available models. As it stands, I feel a bit anxious about accepting or rejecting his offer. The other dealer offered me a pepper grey 147 with sat nav for a much better price, but I really don't like the colour. I only have a rental car so need to buy asap...

Thanks to all for your time and efforts replying to me. This has becoming a very stressful experience and I am now more aware of what the fair price point would be.

    Hi mate,
I wouldnt pull out from him. I would just try and maintain the raport by allowing him the chance to keep you happy...(see my above ideas)
If you now try and find another dealer and stock, it will prolong things and add to your stress. Remember, things like servicing can really add up, so get a written agreement for a few free services....

You guys are awesome... thanks again.
The service bit will be tough as it's in Canberra and I'm in Sydney.
The other factor is the fact that the Black 147 is in WA and I am paying for that freight all the way to Sydney.

I have 3 options now, after a VERY long day calling around.

    1. Black 147 Auto, fog lights, RVC, MDI and bluetooth (all factory fitted) as well as floor and boot mats and tint = 50k
    2. White 103 Auto, sun roof, leather seats, 18" tyres, Sat Nav, RVC, Park Assist, (all factory) Bluetooth, MDI (retro) 2011 car at port now to ensure it's an 11 11 = 54k
    3. White 103 Auto, comfort pack, RVC & Bluetooth (retro) as well as tinting and car/boot mats = 49k

Which of the above represents the best value? #2 is available immediately and has no freight cost factored in...

Since you're in Sydney, did you try Chatswood Classic Cars? The Tig that I ended up not buying (see my sig for specs) may still be available.
