    60k Service - VW Specialist - Rear Rotor Question

    Hi All,

    I just had my Tiguan 60K service completed at local VW specialist. (Have had my last 3 services there for the Tig and GTI and been happy).

    Now everything went fine as per scheduled service but they left the following recommendations on the service summary;

    1. Front windscreen wipers need replacing.
    2. Rear brake pads + rotors need replacing - $595 (not arguing the price as thats not too bad).

    I agree the wipers are worn, so they are correct in picking up on this, but I wanted some advice regarding the rear rotors.

    The pads are definitely low, but the rotors do not have a lip/ridge at all so I am wondering why I would need to replace? I am going to check the minimum width this weekend which I have read being 10mm.

    I checked the front rotors and they are more worn (as expected) than the rear, but these were not called out.

    If anyone has any comments/feedback please leave a post

    Cheers

    I just had 60k service done on the mkv and had rear rotors done also. Was told they use a soft rotor and it's very common to have to do rotors with pads

    It's hard to believe that there would be no lip after 60,000km. But, if there is not than just very light machining should be Ok, but it could be a waste of time when for just a bit more you can get a new rotors and the whole brake job done as it should be.

    Before anyone jumps and say, just replace the pads and you'll be right. I say, you may get noises that were not originally there, so replacing the rotors with the new pads is just a good workshop practice.

    Interesting - did you have a look at the rotors? Was there a lip/ridge on your rears?

    I'd do them.

    They'll be undersized before the next set of pads wear out.
