    2015 Tiguan Opinions

    Hello Tig family,

I'm getting together as many options for a new car this year and am leaning toward city/suv's.
Out of the below range, would it really suck if I was to go for the 118TSI or are all options worth considering?

I'd like to know a little bit more about this car as it looks great!
($30,000 is my budget however a few thousand over isn't the worst case scenario)

    Thanks

OK so the major differences with the 118TSI is that it is:

    • front wheel drive
    • twin charge engine (with potential reliability issues)
    • 6 speed DQ250 DSG

    The 132TI/130TDI have
    • AWD
    • motor from GTI/GTD (detuned)
    • 7 speed DQ500 DSG

If you're going to keep the car longer term (i.e. outside warranty) then I'd be picking the more reliable motor/DSG in the 132TSI/130TDI. The 130TDI is a great car to drive - it's much improved over the older 103TDI which was a little lacking in power for the size car.

    Thanks for the reply mate.

The 132TSI will be a little over my budget however it does sound more promising than the 118 as i'd love a change from a front wheel drive (currently driving a MK3 VR6).

The TDI is a little 'too' pricy for me unfortunately.
I'm finding it quite difficult to find a decent inner city suv for $30k or under ...
Might have to spend that extra buck and have less long term worries I suppose

Yeah the 132TSI is the one to get if you want to tune it.

Just a stage 1 tune with no other hardware mods will take t up to ~190kW.

    Then it's a sleeper SUV

    yum.

Well i'd definitely like to 'try' and invest some money toward certain upgrades, both performance and presentation ...

Have you had any experiences in tuning a Tiguan?
I had a quick look at the 'APR' stuff and it looks promising.
That stage 1 tune that you mentioned, what would be the price on something like that?

I think something like this would be close to your budget and tick a lot of boxes: 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan 5N 155TSI MY13 Direct-Shift Gearbox 4MOTION

If you're worried about warranty you can buy 1,2 or 3 years extended warranties as long as the car is less than 3 years old (currently under warranty).

I've had one Tiguan that was modified - stage 2 APR. Build thread is here if you've got some time for reading: http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...ead-83577.html

    Your Tig's build is unreal.
I'm hoping you still have that bad boy.
How did/does it run with that exhaust/intake upgrade? was it pricy?

As for the 2012 155TSI you've linked, I don't really know how I feel about going second hand (even though it's only done 9k kms along with being in great condition) I just think if I'm going to spend $31,000 on that, an extra $5,000 will get me a brand new 132 TSI.

Just because i've been scarred with second hand cars.
(quick run down - still on my P's, first VR6 i bought blew water pump on the way home/ second VR6 i bought blew a head gasket in the first 3 days)

    2015 Tiguan Opinions

Thanks. The 125TSI has been sold as is. It was my work car and I do relatively high km so It got to the point where I had to change. It was a sad day.

It was a quick car 0-100 on 5.5sec and would keep up with most of your tuned Golfs. Plus leave most 2WD cars for dead when it got a bit wet when traction is an issue. I do really miss that car but it got to the point financially that it didn't make sense to keep it.

I'm in the process of buying (deposit paid) a 155TSI Tiguan which is going to be my wife's daily. It's similar to the one in the link except it has a few more km on it.

That one I linked has very low km and would still be under new car warranty so if anything did go wrong it should be covered. I would check (with the original owner) if it has any accident history.

Also be aware that the options on these cars have changed and currently they're throwing a lot of things in as standard which may not be the case for a 2012 MY13 model.

If I am buying a car for personal use I will always look at a low km/demo as you could save yourself $1,000's in depreciation from buying new.

    Again,
    thanks for your input mate.

Im thinking of holding off and saving as much as I can until EOFYS occur. Put a deposit upfront etc. Hopefully find a nice demo (if possible) or hopefully knock back the price.

Good luck with the new Tig, hope it serves well.

What are your thoughts of the Tig in white? It's growing on me a fair bit.

Also, in respect to your old Tig that was tuned. Did the stage 1 set you back a fair bit or was it reasonable?

Stage 1 tune by APR which is by far the most common tune in the Tiguan is $1,495 though they do go on sale 15% off at various times throughout the year.

I like the white. Even better with R-line kit as everything is colour coded but then that's more $ again.

VW does a model year change around September and you can often pick up discount on the "old" model. Sometimes it's only minor spec changes, other times it's a major facelift.

I'm not sure what is coming this time around as last year they launched the R-line and 130TDI engine. This time I can't see what they're going to do unless they add bi-xenons in as standard )currently not even an option).

The all new Tiguan is due for launch at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Though we won't see it here until later in 2016.
