    2014 2.0 TDI 130 or 2015 1.4 TSI

    Hi all,

Mum looking for a new car, I'm pretty new to VW myself with a 2015 Polo TSI,

She wants and found two Tiguan's, both owned by elderly women.

2014 4Motion 2.0 TDI with 60k on the clock with full service history, one owner, garaged etc

2015 1.4 TSI Bluemotion with 36k on the clock, rest same as above

Both can be had for $20k after negotiation

My only downside for the TDI I can see is a timing belt (still waiting to see if it's been changed at the year interval, since it's only done 60k)

There is a 2014 1.4 TSI with 124k on the clock with all major service done for $14k - that's a nice $6k saving, but mum is unsure because of the mileage...I know.

Any feedback here would be appreciated as there's been a lot of back and forth and she's driving me crazy with it

The argument against the diesel is, if your Mum is likely to do short trips then that may not be the best sort of running for it with DPF issues. The 1.4TSI's are the newer tech that warm up quickly and are ideal for shorter runs. It's likely that the the timing belt has not been done on the TDI. I'd go the TSI with 36K on the clock. Cheers-John

Absolutely go the TDI, stay as far away from the TSI as possible.

The 1.4 TSI in the Tiguan has the very problematic 1.4TSI twincharge engine that WILL fail at some point and to make it worse, it has the worst gearbox VW has ever built, the 7spd dry clutch DSG.

Google engine failures (lots to see on this forum too) on the twincharge TSI and gearbox failures on the 7spd dry clutch (again lost of examples on this very forum).

The TDI has an indestructable 2.0TDI which if serviced well will last 300,000+km and it has the strong 7spd wet clutch DSG gearbox, which has a much better track record.

    [QUOTE=Sharkie;1340402]Absolutely go the TDI,

    .
The only problem is as Suncoaster has said, what is the environment that the car will be working in. If for example, will it be moved
in a driveway to move another car out [lots of starting & stopping],short trips to the deli for milk etc.
If yes, she would need to go on regular runs on a freeway/mainroad to appease the DPF.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

    Tiguan 1.4TSI has a 6 speed DSG (DQ250 wet-clutch).

    Hi all,

Thanks so much for the feedback,

I should've mentioned the car will be doing a fair bit of running around on the highway, probably 70% highway at 100-110kmph and upwards of 50-110km one way per trip, so 100-220km for 3 days of the week, and then any weekend travel.

Timing belt seems to be the only real downsider (don't think DPF would be an issue in the above usage and maybe EGR value in time?)

1.4 T has 6 speed wet clutch so that rules that out as an issue but now just problematic 1.4 TSI engines as the next issue?

And does the 2.0 TSI Bluemothin or 155 2.0 TSI share the same 7 Speed Dry, or wet clutch (same as TDI)?
