What's it do with say 1st, 2nd gear which are the main first world problem?
Also, how much for such a flash though?
Not done any 7 speeders yet but did a tune for an R and stopped it changing into 6th at 60, made it run to 75 before shifting up instead. The owner didn't like the way it was barely off tickover at 60 and completely below any usable power.

....so that's why I've also put in a flappy paddle steering wheel. Not that it changes the shifting points but it does give you a bit more control when it's not in the right gear.
I imagine there is a difference between the 6 speed DSG in Golfs and 7 speed in the Tig. It's likely the DSG shifting points aren't quite the same as gear ratios are very likely different (haven't checked this though) but both DSG boxes would have been "tuned" to give good economy figures.
So you either get used to it, drive in "S" more, or run it around in manual mode (which kind of defeats the point of having an auto). Otherwise you bite the bullet and take things into your own hands and invest a bit more in your car to get it the way you want it.

The APR product apparently fixes the first gear problem too - forces back into first under 17km/hr and doesn't shift up until you've really got going (i.e. no short shifting). Have considered getting this, however it's almost the same price as a tune - $1200.
It's not on the APR site but you can check it out on the Harding Performance site here - Harding Performance
Sounds like it solves a lot of the usual DSG complaints... I reckon they should give me a discount for the promo work

Yeah I'm sure there are other products out there. APR is at the premium end of the market, but you get what you pay for in terms of back-up/support and upfront testing/development.
Running in "S" mode has it's separate issues - like over revving and stick in gear too long especially when cruising around. So unfortunately you've either got super economy "D" or extra sporty "S" but nothing in the middle that's good for everyday driving.
I'll often run in "S" so I don't have the first gear issues and then use cruise control which forces the gearbox to upshift to sports economy mode - usually one gear lower than "D" for the same speed.
This is OK as long as you're not in heavy traffic. As I'm in Adelaide this is rarely an issue!

Thanks all for your advice. At this stage I'm not prepared to mod a 50k car when i firmly believe the issue is a bug and should be fixed by VW.
I get the impression from dealer and conversation that the issue appears in most DSG', but maybe to a much lesser extent than the specific 2012 155 tig.
The gear changes when accelarating from stationary are fine, its only when trying to maintain constant speed or increase speed by less than say 5kms. I spend lots of time in med traffic so thats most of the time.
Experience from others with this model welcome
Picked up my 155TSI 7sp DSG in late July.
I always treat the DSG as an economical slush box but it's ultimately a convenience feature.
If I need to get things done in a hurry, a flick of the stick to the left allows me to swap that to manual override which is IMHO very responsive.
Perhaps it's because I came from a manual box before this, but I found this far more intuitive and far more effortless than trying to find the paddles (I am using this word loosely) when I drove my in-law's MkV GTI or a cousin's MkVI R
I've driven my Tig exclusively with manual mode for solid one month. The DSG seems to learn from it (D Mode) and shifts better, only last for a week or so, now it's back to short shifting. I do notice the box shifts better if the accelerator is pressed harder. Maybe a SprintBooster type of equipment can alleviate this problem, they are not cheap either.
