2010 Tiguan TSI - Which Engine Oil? Longlife or Without Long Life?

    Hi,

My Tig's "Check Oil Level" light came on an hour ago. I plan to get a refill at Supercheap tomorrow (Sunday). Which one should I get? The manual specify for petrol engine "with LongLife: VW504, VW503" and "without LongLife: VW504, VW502".

Should I be worried about Longlife or not? I assume 5W30 can be used for both Longlife and not.

I understand Supercheap stock Castrol which is used by dealership. Which one should I get? Castrol Edge 5W30 or Castrol Magnatec 5W30?

    Thanks in advance,
    XTX

Needs to be either 504/507 or 502/505-approved.

    Hi Umai

What are the differences? I notice that there are 2 different Castrol Edge. One is Castrol Edge A3/B4 (502/505) and the other is just Castrol Edge (504/507) (seems to be for diesel). Should I just get Castrol Edge A3/B4?

    Thanks,
    XTX

The only approved oil i could find at SCA was the Penrite product. Maybe my local one had sold out of the Castrol? My 2010 TSI will use a little oil if i'm just doing short trips around town, but hardly uses any if i do a 1500+ km round trip up the coast.

    Hi MGV,

I got Castrol Edge (504/507) this morning. It's on sale, 5L for $52.49.

I agree with your comments about long trip used less engine oil. I made a lot of shot trips for the past 6 months. I guess this is why I encountered this problem.. never have this issue up to 60k service.

    Cheers,
    XTX

This is the best APPROVED Edge oil Castrol Edge Diesel DPF Engine Oil - 5W-30, 5 Litre - Supercheap Auto

Otherwise Penrite Enviro+ 5W 30 is a cheaper alternative as I buy it at Repco when on special for $65-$69

It never hurts to use a higher rated oil but it does hurt to use a lower rated or non apprved oil especially if down the road you have engine problems

You cant buy the dealer oil anywhere else. It is Castrol EDGE Professional Longlife III 5W-30 My dealer charges $93 at Spare parts

and $118 when used in a service

I supply my own Penrite oil.

Neither of my cars have ever required a top up between services.

    Hey fellas,
I had the low oil light come on last night.
Is it better to buy oil/filter from VW or does Autobarn/Repco/Burson/Supercheap sell the same quality etc?
If ok, anyone have the oil filter no?

Ps- are there any VW dealer special tools I need to be aware of before starting?

    Regards.
