2010 Tiguan lower bumper

In addition to the buggered air con compressor, someone just backed their car into the Tiguan as the GF was leaving the carpark at the market. Punched a little hole in the lower rear bumper with their towbar and then tried driving off. She blocked them at the exit and got their details but they were "Meh! It happened in a carpark so we are both at fault." Whilst I think that is rubbish, proving she was at fault will be next to impossible.

Excess on the insurance is $600, so obviously don't want to claim on that if I can source a lower rear bumper and swap it over cheaper (or get the other person to pay for it). Had a look on the net and can't find a lower rear bumper with the cutouts for the parking sensors. So I thought I would throw it out to the forum for hints and tips on how to proceed.

Lower bumper or lower grille?

If it's the lower grille you can get these for around $200 from your VW parts dept.

A bit of messing around to change it over as you have to remove your entire front bumper as the grille comes in/out from the back.

As far as how you want to pursue it I'll leave that one for you to decide.

Sorry, I missed the most important bit, it is the lower part of the REAR bumper 6 torx screws and a few clips to get that one out apparently.

Yep, will have to see how it pans out. If it was the upper part of the rear bumper it would be going on insurance because that sparkly black paint wouldn't be cheap

Ahh yes you did mention it was the rear in your original post

I suspect this is going to be a hard to get part second hand as more than likely the bumpers are the first bits to get damaged in an accident.

Get in quick as the rear bumper will be a very common part people will be after.

...and on a side note it's interesting to see someone has upgraded their 2010 Tig to current model wheels (before being written off).

Emailed, so we will see. Depends on the condition of it of course, prior to the carpark clash the bumper didn't have so much as a scratch on it

the unpainted lower bumper is quite cheap. Mine was replaced for $350 including labour (includes reverse lamp and parking sensor swap over)
