    18" Davenport Alloys

I'm looking at getting a set of VW 18" Davenport Rims for my soon to arrive 147TSI Tiguan.

My dealer doesn't have any and I've never seen a Tig in the flesh with them fitted, has anyone seem them in real life, if so what did you think...are they worth getting?

If you purchased a set would you mind sharing with me what they set you back?

The Tig I've order comes with the 17" Boston alloys...do you think you would notice much ride quality change by going up one rim size (all the Tigs I've test driven have only had 16" rims).

Any Tig owners with 18" alloys - would you say your ride is too firm and would you have preferred smaller alloys if you had the choice now? Or would you say go for the 18"s!

I'll mostly be doing metro motorway driving and rural highway driving (rough QLD roads), no off roading.

    Cheers!

My Tig came with 18s (I got one that was already built and on its way from Germany so didn't have a choice) but I do a bit of off-road work so wanted 17s for the bigger sidewall (protection from rock damage and possibly a softer ride on harsh surfaces) so I ran the 18s for about 3 months and then changed to 17s when another Tig arrived at the dealer (he'd agreed to this at the time of purchase). I expected to feel more difference than I really did going from 18s to 17s so don't think you'll find it too much going the other way. Probably quite dependent on the tire type fitted too (I have Michelin Latitude Diamaris on the 17s).

I think the Davenports look really good but to be honest I would have gone to 16s if i could have got them (they're not available in NZ yet) because of the off-road aspect. Understand that's not an issue for you though.

    Cheers

I'm looking at the 19" options. They say for the OEM 19"ers you need the flare kit, but talking to local wheel shop, they're sure they can do it without the flares and still keep it legal.

As for harder ride, I'd be surprised if you noticed any difference between the 17's and 18's on most roads, but the 18's should give you just a bit sharper steering - at least in my experience.

We have 18's and the ride is good, plenty of side wall.

    Cool about the 18" ride.

I was checking out pricing on the USA vw.com website as they have a build a Tiguan option on the site...found an interesting point. On any US model of Tiguan to upgrade from either 16 or 17" alloys to the 18" Davenports it's a US$1440 option, to upgrade to the 18" New York Alloys it a US$1600 option...so in theory if in Aus the New Yorks are a AU$1500 option, maybe the Davenports shouldn't be too badly priced...wishful thinking maybe

Still waiting to hear back from the dealer RE pricing...

brh1978, did you end up getting the Davenport 18"? Are they cheaper than the $1,500 upgrade for the New York 18" for the 147TSI?

Didn't end up bothering with the Davenports as the dealer quoted approx $3600 (give or take depending on the tyres we went for). They also wouldn't trade the stock alloys, they said they didn't want them...IMHO way too expensive an exercise, I doubt I would've gotten anything much for the stock alloys second hand..
