    147 v 125 pricing etc

    Thought I'd post up some stuff about pricing between these two variants and how I managed to make the most of VW's fantastic system of being able to order almost exactly what you want.

    While the 147 offers the extra kw, and a few other standard extra's, they don't offer it in a manual. Why I don't know, because they market it as the "sports car-like" version. Anyway, I still wouldn't have bought one because the numbers just don't add up....

    Mine's cost me just under $46,500 and that's on the road with the Comfort Pack, Park Assist, 19" wheels, the AVC9000, and the remap. This gives me pretty much what the 147 has, with the exception of fog lights, different seats and few other bits (although the 147 doesn't come with Park Assist, Sat Nav and is 147kw, not 180kw).

    The stock 147 starts at $43000 plus on roads and dealer delivery. So it would have to be topping out at over $50000 drive away. Then I'd still have to add the wheels, remap, AVC9000 and Park Assist. Which is going to bring it up to over the $55000 mark. To be fair, I would be getting the auto - not that I wanted it - and that's an extra $2000. So take that off (if it were possible) and I'd still be paying around the $53000 mark.

    $53000 v $46500?

    But however you look at it, the one thing that's great is being able to have options like this. Full marks VW - and the organisations that sit beside you. I'm sold.

    I've been paying much attention to the pricing as well and for me this would be the result ....

    125kw manual $33990
    Metalic paint $800
    Comfort Package $1000
    Alarm System $600
    Foglights $400
    Total VW cost $36790
    On the road (in June at end of FY possibly) $38000 ..... ????

    Possibly also Sport bodykit about $2000

    I noticed that if it came in manual you might have gone for that one instead!?!?!?

    I noticed you have recommended the 147 for me on other threads...
    and as much as I'd love a 147TSI... I'm playing with the numbers still myself!

    sigh - me having a week off work - is giving me far too much time to contemplate options!

    No, probably not - even if there was a manual available. Mind you, a manual would drop the price by $2k I think, so that would roughly cover the remap that I'd still do. But then I'd still have to add new wheels etc. So no, it still wouldn't add up for me. I don't have a need for multiple storage pockets, rear tables, bits of extra chrome, fog lights etc.

    But IMO, what the marketing and price positioning is about for the 147 is paying for the up-spec engine, not so much the extra creature features - because they don't add up. But as we all know, that is a non-issue and to pay for a 147 and then remap it, is really paying twice for the same enhancement (albeit, the latter kills the original).

    But the 147 will sell because it's there in a nice off-the-shelf package.

    My head is telling me to go for the 125...
    but the 147 is very very attractive - but $7000 more - which is the bit I'm struggling with.

    I think someone's done the maths but I can't recall where

    The 125TSI Auto is $36,490
    The 147TSI is $42,990
    Difference of $6,500

    What does this 6,500 extra buy you?
    - Comfort Pack $1,000
    - RCD510 say $500 (the difference of dynaudio upgrade between 125/103 and 147)
    - Front Fog lights $400
    - 17" Alloys say $800 (the difference of the New York 18" upgrade between 125/103 and 147)
    - if you add Park Assist $500 diff
    - if you add Leather Seats $300 diff

    So if you have these options, the end result is a $3,000 difference which gets you the extra power/torque, and the other bits that are exclusive to the 147.

    IMHO if you are going to add a few options like the Comfort pack and Park Assist, then you may as well get the 147. If you are going to stick with the basic package with a couple of options, then you can't go past the 125 with an APR chip.

    It's actually $3,500.

    rear parking sensors I read somewhere was $800?
    (Not sure you can add the Optical Parking System on a 125 but you can add just the beepers (sensors)?

    I am keen for at least the Comfort Pack and Leather (I have a dog),
    Like the idea of parking sensors and Park Assist (although the later is probably a nice to have gimmick).
    I am keen to add SATNAV and Bluetooth eventually - but I will probably do that after the fact.
