    132 vs 155 tig

Im sure this has been posted to death but...

im not sure between the 155 and the 132.

i test drove both but in the little loop i did it was hard to tell the difference. I also now realise i didnt even go up any decent hills. just down them.

would you notice the difference in the 155 to the 132 in general driving?

i might chip it or something. but basically if i do do anything (and dont chicken out scared it will affect warrantly) it will be basic. i wont be changing intercoolers or adint air intakes etc. if you can tick a box on the vcd doover then cool but im not into pulling stuff out and screwing it in when it comes to engine stuff.Im not sure how much needs to be changed from factory to do an apr tune.

theres about 10k difference between the 2 in the quotes i got, and while i WANT the 155 coz its the biggest and the best... im not sure i can justify the 10k for chrome roof rails and a bigger screen where i plug my ipod in :/

My only comment - go drive them both again, find some hills and go UP them. Same hills for each type. If held up by traffic, do it again.
I doubt you are going to thrash it! If the salesman is hesitant, take him with you. I'd bet he drives it harder!
When I brought the test-drive Tig back my salesman asked if i'd gone on an interstate trip - but he didn't specify how long I had it for and it was well under an hour.
I need to sit in seats for at least 20 minutes to let my back start complaining, as does the other half.
I figure I will have the car for several years, and spend over 1000 hours sitting in it - so 100 minutes is hardly an unreasonable test drive!

Torque figures on both cars are the same. You can lay the power curves on top of each other and the 132 is capped wheras the 155 power keeps going at higher RPM.

Because of this you'll only really notice a difference over ~4,000 RPM. You'll have a bit of extra power when overtaking, however for everyday driving there will be virtually no difference between the 2 cars.

Plus if you do ever tune it you'll end up with the same power out of both cars.

So it comes down to the chrome blingy bits and a little extra oomph when overtaking vs $10k in the pocket. Oh yes I almost forgot you get bag hooks in the 155...

Hope this helps .. ( cut and paste)

" With the exception of the top-spec petrol-powered 155TSl, all Tiguan models ride on 16-inch alloy wheels and come equipped with air conditioning, an AM/FM security-coded radio) with an MP3-compatible CD player, Bluetooth phone connectivity as well as a centre-console-mounted media device interface that comes with a USB connection cable.

The 155TSI adds sporty 17-inch alloys, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fancier touch-screen audio system with MP3, automatic rain-s sensing wipers and rear parking- distance system with optical parking sensors as standard.

The range-topper also adds extra chrome highlights, tinted glass from the B-pillar back, sports seats, front fog lights and sports suspension. "

Also some options are cheaper if you go for 155 model like leather interior 4k for 132 and 3.5k for 155, satnav also bit cheaper if go for 155.

Apart from that most important 0 to 100 km/h value 155TSI - 7.2 sec vs 132TSI 8.4 sec considering both are DSG.

About the tuning options, if tuned 155 and 132 will end up in very similer (if not identical ) level of power about 190 kW. We have found that 132 has smaller intercooler too, but not sure whether it has been upgraded now from factory. Bad side of tuning is it will void your warranty and car will get flag from VW if you get your car serviced from a VW dealership and it will be in their national database for rest of the car's life. So if need more power and keep the warranty 155TSI is the way to go.

    * also I suspect 132 may have loaded with different DSG software version, because some have got DSG tunes with 132 TSI but I haven't found anyone with DSG upgrade tunes with 155 TSI. ( this is just a speculation)

    Thanks guys.

I did notice my back got achey in the 155 (and the xv) but not the 132 but I drove it on a different day. I also didn't play with the lumbar support or seat position too much.
The dealer is good. No time limit and just gives me the keys. I got bored and couldn't think where to go. I might just pay the $11 and take it through our nearby national park. It's got some hills. And also one hill I went down is huge and straight out of a roundabout. It's definitely a second gear one so I'll go up it next time!
If I do decide the 155 the price with leather and sunroof was low 50s so I'll wait the few months for the r line

I am sure you can had one for mid to high 40s with leather and sunroof. Also don't forget Bi Xenons, it makes Tig little bit special and is an option hard to add later. For example it is easy to add satnav later than Bi Xenons or leather or sunroof . I got everything in my signature right around 49k mark.

Yeah, I know the feeling, if you can get a ex demo for good value it would not be a bad idea too, because Tigs depreciation rate is quite high and added extra means it is even higher.

Up coming R line could only be the diesel version and if they bring gasoline version price could be bit higher due to novel factor. May be high 50s with bundled option package. However it would be wise to wait and see how it will turn up.

    +1

I wouldnt spend anything over $10 for a car that i have only test driven for 10-20mnts. Unless i earn how much the car costs in 10-20mnts.
