Our Tig always shift very smoothly into any gear. I think you should book it in ASAP, don't expect that the dealer will fix it when they service it. Let them know now and they can be ready to fix it when they do your 15,000km service.
Hi Everyone,
Decided to post this question before raising this issue @ the 15k km service in few weeks hoping someone could give me an idea what it might be causing it.
There is an inconsistent but almost violent down-shift from 2nd to 1st while slowing down to stop. It appears almost like hitting a pothole? Is it how Tig's transmission supposes to work? Can down-shifting be fine tuned or disabled via software?
The second thing I noticed (I'm not a regular driver but it's got my better half's attention only recently) is a sort of humming noise coming from underneath of the car when in drive and standstill (foot brake on). As soon as brake is released (even before the vehicle starts moving) the noise and vibrations are gone. Press the brake aging and it all back. The noise is gone if shift to neutral too but is back as soon as I put it back to drive again.
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated?
Thanks heaps.

Thanks Transporter.
I did mention it during the service booking as "some problems with transmission". Have to admit I haven't gone in much details at that stage but asked if a tech. will be available at drop off so I can try to describe the problem.
My fear is because the down-shifting issue is not consistent it's going to be hard to reproduce (and explain) on the spot (had always bad experience with intermittent issues ).

My 147 auto does this occasionally too, I've read a few threads on different Tiguan forums about this intermittent harsh downshift and it seems normal for this transmission, happens to Tiguans in the UK and US too. I mentioned it to the dealer at the 15km service and he said they didn't see any faults codes.

Epilogue:
The service @ 15k km done (new oil, filter and few "checks" for $395). Everything still the same (why I'm not surprised). Besides being very polite and courteous have to admit, they were useless in finding where the problem is.
In regard to the nasty down-shifting, been told they had reset DSP (Dynamic Shifting Program) which according to them might help but they also said even if it cures the problem very likely it'll come back again. Apparently if two people driving the same car (different driving styles), DSP data get messed up very quickly. Asked if DSP can be turned off but got the answer it can't (took this with a reserve).
As for the second issue (which worried me the most) got absolutely nothing. "Your car drives the same like another one we have." was a transmission fault finding procedure used. Left me with no comment.
After all I think I'll gave up the idea of fitting a tow bar and try some camping with this car...stopped being adventurous that much.
