    118TSi auto stop start

    Hi,

Our standard 118 TSi has recently stopped doing its auto stop start thing.
Whenever you think it should stop you get the A with a cross through it symbol in the MFD as expected.
I've tried turning the function off and back on again with the switch to see if that kicks it into life, but no success.
I've tried turning off and on the auto-hold function as well.
I've tried turning off the climate control and audio, which all seem to add to the chances of it not turning off the engine.
I realise it must use a few sensors to decide if its appropriate to use in any given situation, so it's almost like one of those sensors is giving a permanent NO.

The car does normally do a lot of short journeys so it could be the battery voltage, but we did a 2hr round trip last night and still no success this morning.

It's recently had a 15k service at a reputable independent, so I'm wondering if its possible for him to have inadvertently unplugged a crucial sensor?

Anyone had any similar experiences or got any ideas?

My idea would be to check the battery voltage, but I'm no expert on this.

Mine stopped working too. Took it to the dealer and there was some wiring issue that they found. Now fixed although I think they did a update as when cold the car seems to have a higher idle speed than it did before…

I'd be in the same boat as you - looking for something in VCDS to make Off the default. That said I've driven the Mk7 Golf and it's not that bad (engine is started and ready to go just as you start applying pressure on the accelerator). Wouldn't be a massive disaster turning it off manually either (do it just after the handbrake switch).

    Well it fixed itself yesterday.
    No idea why.

I too don't really like it, nor the auto hold; you have to modify your driving style to get the best out of them.
It would be better if the on/off functions would stick between journeys.
It would be much better if the on/off buttons were more accessible so you could use the tool when you wanted to.

And give me a real handbrake any day !

The stop start doesnt work if you use the Auto Hold to keep you still It only works with your foot hard on the footbrake.

Tried it in the Passat and thats how it works I dont mind it. Just a matter of getting used to it and learning to anticipate the lights.

I find in my local area I can start it in time to take off at the head of the queue without holding anyone up.

As long as you dont bang on the loud pedal as soon as you release the brake it will take off smoothly.

The auto handbrake is great, it reminds me to put my seatbelt on or it wont release on its own.

Look at the positives The car had them and you bought it so why moan about them.

Not true in Tiguan. In fact I would say that opposite is true or at least more likely.

But no amount of test driving will tell you what it's like to live with. Just suggesting some improvements in case anyone is listening.

Well they must have changed it radically then because in the Passat and the Alltrack you have to hold the brake pedal down hard or engine doesnt stop.
What I meant about the auto hold is that if its on and you stop and release the footbrake to let the hold work the engine will restart.

According to the manual thats how it works.

I dont think turning off this stuff is necessarily an improvement but that just me.

Had I not wanted all the fruit I would have bought something else. LOL
