Take a test drive, you might be surprised at how unnoticeable it is (esp if you have music playing).
It would put me off buying a car to be honest. The DSG delay in the Tiguan pisses me off enough that i have contemplated selling it, but if a car stopped the engine every time i pulled up to the lights it would send me insane

I tried it out when test driving the Mazda CX-5. I only really noticed the sound of the engine starting again when accelerating. Didn't notice a lag at all when taking off.
Still makes me wonder about engine issues from constantly stopping and starting. I also wonder about the savings in fuel, is it actually noticeable?
Fifth Gear (sensible version of TopGear in the UK) tested it out and found a 10% fuel saving - like everything it depends on driving conditions.
It hasnt been around long enough yet, but I wonder how the starter motors and batteries are going to cope
Most that have it have different starter motors to cope and mine has an AGM battery that accepts regenerative energy when braking and costs $800 according to my friendly Battery World guy.
I would be more concerned about suddenly stopping a hot diesel with no coolant circulating.
As far as I can ascertain it doesnt circulate and how could it unless it has an electric water pump
