110,000 kays on

I haven't been on the forum much for a long time, though I still check in from time to time- its a great source of info and ideas. With our Tig now over 110,000 and over 5 years old we thought it useful to share our experience to date. We have had our Tig since July 2009 and still love it. Its been very reliable, always a pleasure to drive and holding together well.

We did the APR stage 1 mod at less than 10,000 kays so the engine, manual gearbox and clutch have all done over 100,000 with the stage 1 upgrade and on that it hasn't missed a beat. Very impressed with that upgrade and the ability of the stock Tig to handle the extra oomph. So far the Tig is the best car I have ever owned, and the Stage 1 upgrade has certainly helped to say that. It has also made the Tig a fantastic car for towing, with heaps of grunt down low.

We also installed some 'spacers' from J Cubed (south africa, no longer on this forum I believe) which lifted the car about 20mm in height all round. Again Car has done at least 80,000 klms on those now and still going well. Mrs is keen to pull those out now, and in fairness we haven't really used the extra clearance much in the way we have used the car.

However given we have a new toy now (replaced my aging but very reliable and consistent Hyundai EXcel) I'd like to keep it high for the point of difference - but the Tig is the Mrs daily drive now (and always has been!).

The new toy (and Mrs desire to lower the Tig again) came following a test drive of an Audi SQ5. Loved the SQ5 and certainly a step up from the Tig, but then it should be at the price and while we loved it, it didn't really have any more luggage room (compared with way we set up our Tig) and was soo good at what it did that it didn't feel faster than the Tig (in a straight line) even though it most certainly was.

But sometimes you get your hearts desire, just in a different form and for us it still arrived in the shape of a blue Audi, but as a 2009 Audi A3 2.0 quattro with an APR stage 1 tweak instead of an SQ5. And at less than a quarter of the price of the SQ5 and still significantly less kays than the Tig there is a lot to like about that. And so far I am loving it, certainly sits flat thru the corners, has a classy cabin and is quicker than the Tig. Pic below. However I do prefer the weighting of the Tigs steering.

I expect we will be keeping our Tig for many years to come, and driving a range of other cars recently in our search for a newer 2nd car, has simply illustrated how good the Tig is for us.

Well we are now 150,000 kays on and the Tig is still doing well, though the roof lining is starting to let go and the rear hatch lock has stopped working (see my other thread on that).

Clutch and drive train still holding up well with the Stage 1 mod from <10k, so has done 140,000 with that mode now with no problems and quite a lot of towing (petrol Tig is a great tow vehicle with the stage 1 mod) .

Still a pleasure to drive and we are hoping she will prove faithful to at at least 200k, whereupon we may finally consider trading her in (perhaps on the new tig, will wait to see whats that's like later this year).

A few things are starting to wear out (bushes in front end etc) which we will need to address at the next service (around 160k for us), and while I would prefer nothing to be done, cant complain.

We had intended to buy the diesel but ended up with a petrol instead and cant say we have ever really regretted that (especially with the fun of stage 1) but we would consider a diesel next as our yearly kays are getting up there now (25,000 plus).

We have been running Cooper CS5's since 118,000 kays and they have been great so far - no complaints and whereas a lot of other tyres we have fitted have been on their way out over 30-35k, these still have heaps of life left (guaranteed for 70k, and they look on track for same)

We did the rear brake pads about 20 months ago (Apr 14), but haven't done the front or the rotors yet. That would have been at over 100k kms. How are yours holding up? Still happy with the Tig?

We will need to do New sway bar links and castor control bushes at the next service.

this has been a quiet little thread, but one of those that is valuable to those of us who have a similar car that is behind you in kilometres. Interesting to read what is starting to need repairs in your car and your thoughts on petrol vs diesel. As a fellow Tig owner I hope you get many more years of trouble free motoring out of your car, and also hope you are still enjoying your Audi as well.

Ive got 176,000 on my tdi 09 model and the last 30 thou have been a great mix of sealed and unsealed roads and tracks as well as towing our 75 model franklin caravan .. getting it service wednesday and new all terrain tyres . We love the ride and comfort of the leather with climate controll .

Glad to hear it is all going well.

Mine is now 5 years and 5 months with 43,000km and no issues on Stage 2. Hoping to have many more kilometres of worry free motoring.

140,000km on for a 09 2.0 TSi Tiguan

Suspected Tandem pump seal leak ($$$) but turned out to be a replacement ($300 part from VW)
Seal between driveshaft and transmission replacement ($100ish)
CV boot replacement ($300ish)
Seal between auto transmission (non-dsg) and engine was leaking oil, had to take the transmission apart to replace. (Details on part unclear, Mostly labor $980)

Pretty expensive fortnight I'd say, think we spent about 3 grand in total in repairs and a service. But we had a free car for over 2 weeks so that was sweet.

Fuel consumption is at around 11.5L/100km with urban driving.

Cheers arcadent and yes loving the Audi and hoping the Tig is good to at least 200k before any major work, she has been good to us so far all in all.

Great to see a few others chipping in as well, helps put a picture together for those with less kays as you say and for anyone considering buying a second hand Tig. cheers
