103TD1 Air Con Compressor/Suction Hose failure

G'Day All.

My Tiggy is 3 years 11 months and 46,300km old/young and has developed an air conditioning problem. The relevant specialist advised that the "A/C suction hose and compressor are suspect". System was evacuated and recharged with R134A gas and fluorescent dye for leak checking and then driven for about 1000km. Original noise in cabin and inefficient AC returned so back to specialist who advised the hose requires replacement ($771.00) and the compressor remains suspect. VW service manager, very co-operative bloke, agrees and advises hose replacement and watch compressor which may also require replacement later, at which time (if at all) he will approach VW Oz for warranty assistance given low kms even though it is out of warranty. That's our problem.

The question follows: Are such problems with the AC suction hose and/or compressor common in the Tiguan or in other VWs with the same or similar AC systems?

This is the first problem we've had with the Tiggy which we bought to replace a Honda CRV of 8 years vintage. We were very satisfied Honda drivers and are equally contented Tiggy drivers. Coincidentally, we had to replace the Honda's AC as well (maybe its a finger trouble). We are also very contented with the dealer, Gary Crick VW, Maroochydore.

I've replaced a few compressors on them, and on the Golf 6 (Similar engine and ancilaries on both).

Compressors have always been a problem for VWs.
