What difference, if any, should I see in my MFD having installed an RNS510?

    Hi All,

Have recently replaced the RCD510 unit in my car and installed an RNS510 (version F).

The coding for the unit was completed today, during the car's service, however I've not yet noticed any difference.
The change never affected the display of my music in the MFD, nor the ability to answer calls or switch through my songs using my steering wheel.

So my question is, should anything have changed? I was under the impression I would get a compass option in the MFD menu, and possibly voice control.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

by coding to enable BAP on the RNS510, you should get navigation instructions, and a compass bearing in the top left corner, a compass will replace the navigation instructions when navigation is not in use, to get voice control via the steering wheel, the steering wheel will need to be coded, not the RNS510

One would hope that you should at least have street map now on the screen.

Or am I reading your question too literally?

I assume you turned the car off/on and have rebooted the RNS510 since applying the coding.

If you scroll sideways through the MDI pages you should have one for navigation. It will show a big compass and your current street when no destination is set, and change to show instructions once you program in a destination.

Check for RNS510 coding guides or demo videos on YouTube for more info

    So to clear things up.
The RNS510 unit worked perfectly from the moment I put it in the car. Maps, navigation, MDI, bluetooth, etc. The only thing that didn't come across was the additional info on my MDI screen (and voice control).

I called the dealer today, who advised they had a few issues coding the unit.
The service manager said that they had to manually code the unit as it's too new for the Australia software that they're using (unit is a version F).
The manager said they eventually managed to get everything working (not too sure what he meant by this, as everything else was already working), it was just the MDI info that wouldn't cooperate.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I suggest you double check what version map you have pre-loaded on your unit.

So not 100% on how to check which version of maps I've got. Went Out the the car and held the setup button for a while. It came up with SW-Version 3970 and Map Version HDD 7360.

    Thoughts?

Not enabled properly. Don't accept it from them. Check YouTube for some footage of how it should work.

Did you get this going? Same situation as you, upgraded to RNS510-F from RCD510 on my GTI ED 35 many thanks to Erkin!

Everything works (BT/MDI/Steering etc) except for MFD, I have the VAG with me today (from Erkin) so hoping that someone can throw a few clear pointers my way. I have tried all the coding in this forum + My GTI; this is the first time I have done anything like so hoping someone can explain it as you would to a noob.

You should only have to tick the Navigation box (19 - CAN Gateway, Long Coding, Byte 4, Bit 6), then turn the car off and back on, and perhaps reboot the RNS510

Then go into module 37 - Navigation and check these settings:

Unless something has changed since the MY10 Golf/RNS C unit.
