Samsung Galaxy SII Compatibility Issues with B7 Passat Bluetooth

My new Samsung Galaxy SII connects with the Passat's bluetooth and the Passat's bluetooth connects with the phone. So, both Bluetooth devices can 'see' and 'talk' to each other, so to speak.

The problem is the Passat's Bluetooth system cannot see any of the contacts listed on the Samsung Galaxy SII. It claims it cannot access the phone book and then claims there are no entries in the phone book. This is definitely wrong as all the contacts are clearly visible on the Samsung phone.

Ironically, my old Nokia 3270 Classic works seamlessly with the Passat!

Any suggestions would be most appreciated as I've spent the last couple of days trying to sort this out and I'm at my wit's end!

I have an SGSII and it works seemly with my RCD510. I can see the call register, phonebook etc.

Which unit have you got in your Passat?

Thanks for your reply, frozze. The MY11 B7 Passat comes with the RCD510 as well, but the VW definitely can't see the call register, phonebook etc. from the SGSII.

Strange, it should definitely work. I cant believe how well it works with my RCD510!

When you were pairing it with the RCD510, did you see a notification on your phone asking for authorisation to transfer the phonebook?
It should pop up right after the RCD510 pairs with your phone. If you didnt see that, maybe try delete the pair and start afresh.

Actually, before you do that. Go to Setup on the RCD510, hit Telephone and "Update Phonebook" (if you haven't already done that).

The dealer set my bluetooth up for me in 20 secs.. I was shocked as to how easy it was.

Maybe check the phone's security settings. Check if the car's BT is between the trusted devices.

Thanks frozze & Transporter - I appreciate your excellent suggestions, but no luck whatsoever. I'll take my Passat to the dealer and see if they can help. Failing that I might have to ditch the Samsung and go for a Nokia N9 or Apple iPhone S.

You'd be downgrading your phones then! LOL..

I'm sure there is an issue with the pairing. I've re-paired my SGS2 several times and each time, it worked straight away, always asks for authorisation to access my phonebook.

Even when I add a contact on my SGS2, the RCD510 picks it up and asks if I want to update my phonebook in the system.

Hi Guys, thought you'd like to know I solved the problem and I get to keep my snazzy Galaxy SII.

When the SGSII syncs with the Passat's Bluetooth, the RCD510 will then ask for phone book access. This is completely separate to asking for the access code / pin number when pairing the two devices.

The problem is that a small and very brief message regarding phone book access will appear in the top left hand corner of the SGSII. Easy to miss and certainly not self-explanatory!

The trick is to immediately tap on this message and hold it before it disappears, then swipe towards the bottom of the screen to see the relevant notification in its entirety. I then had the option to respond in the affirmative to this notification and always allow the RCD510 to have authorized access to the contacts listed in the phone book on the SGSII.
