For simplicity, i ditched the RNS510 voice control and wired the mic directly to the BT module.... in 9 months i've hardly used voice control for the RNS, keying in data has been more reliable and quicker... i might try wiring the RNS in over the weekend.

So far, its working well, steering wheel controls work etc...

    Thumbs up

Thanks for all the info in this thread people . I purchased the VW 9ZB / 9WZ 5N0 035 730 D from the Spanish fella on Ebay last wednesday evening. I paid for the express delivery option and it arrived on Monday . $340 for premium bluetooth is better than a couple of grand going to the dealers in my opinion. Ebay link here

Install was straight forward and the unit worked as it should out of the box without the need for any extra parts. An enjoyable tinker in the garage with a few beers. Install took about 2 hours.

Install was on a 2010 gti with an RCD510. Best hands free kit I have used by far. It works wonderfully with an Iphone 4. Have not tested it on other phones.

The bluetooth module just slots into the OEM position under the drivers seat perfectly and is held in place with uber sticky velcro. The most difficult part of the install was running the wiring harness along the existing loom in the door sill and across to the underside of the seat. The only other difficult part of the install was safely removing the A panel trim. I found some decent instruction on how to remove the A panel trim safely atmy-gti.com....

The only thing left to do is find someone in Sydney who is willing to do some VAGCOM VCDS coding for the steering wheel controls for a slab of beer. Any takers? PM me.

I have been following up with eBay Spanish guy. Won't give mr a straight answer and says nothing wrong - I don't know if it's 9w7 or wiring loom - but mine is mono through all speakers. Hard to tell as still sounds good.

Very interested to hear on others?

Also need coding for ptt button in canberra - dealer doesn't know how

    Hi Omee,
I did a comparison between Mdi connection and Bluetooth audio streaming. So confirmed musics streams in stereo.

Phone calls however are mono. But I think that is how it should be.

I am using the "Spanish guy" harness (which has the rns510 microphone inputs and outputs bridged) and have checked the wiring of the LEFT+/- and RIGHT+/- channels in the harness, and it is wired correctly. Therefore a lack of stereo would technically be a fault with the bluetooth module itself, phone incompatibility, or the set up of the RNS inputs.

The ultimate test would be to activate stereo streaming on the rns510 and then individually disconnect the pins for LEFT BT audio and then for RIGHT BT audio at the back of the unit. If disconnecting each channel results in the relevant side going silent, then it is a Bluetooth module or phone issue. If disconnecting one channel stops all audio, and disconnecting the other channel does nothing, then we know the rns510 is somehow programmed to duplicate one channel to both speaker sides, and ignore the other channel.

As a side, I noticed the spanish guy harness bridges the rns510 "Amp" output to the "Mute" input of the rns 510 - I presume this is because the rcd510 (not rns510) has it;s telephone mute pin where the rns510 has it's Amp pin. I have cut the connection to the Amp pin.

So you have confirmed the music stream in stereo over AD2P/Bluetooth ?

Yes, audio streaming of Bluetooth in stereo from my iPhone 4 works.

Do you happen to have any instructions on how to loom it underneath the drivers seat? I've got mine tucked behind the A/C controller unit but been meaning to find out which path to take to put it underneath the drivers seat.?

    Hey Rank,
I took a few photos and wrote a little guide to show you how I ran the loom.

The Red line obviously indicates the direction of the run. To do this I first removed compartment 1. Then fuse box cover 2, then trim panel 3. Pry sill trim 4 up 3/4 of the way along the door. No need to remove the whole B pillar trim.

Trim 5 was quite tricky... see image below

Using a small/medium flat blade screw driver, undo the two screws at X. One of these is behind the bonnet release. Pull the bonnet release back as far as it will go to access this screw. My screw had a flat trim cap covering it which I had to remove first. It simply clipped free as I pried under it with a small flat blade screwdriver.

The next bit is very difficult. First lift the back of the trim up and over the accelerator pedal, then pry the trim over the bonnet release catch at A and the push the trim down towards the floor while rotating in sort of the B direction.

Once this panel is removed you will see the wiring harness that runs to the sill as indicated by the blue line

    ************************************************** *

There is plenty of room to run the loom underneath the steering wheel column, behind the little compartment and down towards the bonnet release trim.

From there I ran the blue tooth harness along the vehicle wiring loom in the bottom of the door sill. With the door sill trim released you can pull back the carpet and underlay to see the vehicles loom. I taped my bluetooth harness with electrical tape to this loom in 3-4 spots to hold it in place.

As illustrated in the above photo, I chose to depart from the vehicles loom when it reached the seat support frame.

It was then a simple matter of up and over the frame and out through the cable connection box under the seat. With carpet and trim back in original locations, there is no evidence of the new blue tooth cable until it exits the cable box under the seat.

I feel that this is the ideal location for the bluetooth unit. My phone bluetooth pair stopped working once and the only way to get it to pair again was to reset the bluetooth unit. The only way I was able to get it to pair again was by unplugging the cable from the bluetooth unit and plugging it back in again. I can only assume that this somehow powercycled the bluetooth unit. Needless to say this would not be fun with the bluetooth unit tucked away behind the dash.
