What do you mean? How will the cutting 2 wires and soldering them into the new plug gets the microphone where it should be when you have no microphone in the car?

update - I took it into VW who said this wasn't possible with this bluetooth. And Voice Recognition was only available with the Nav System (and this needed a separate microphone) and this didn't work with voice phone dialing anyway. I asked about this video by the VW Sales guy - and the mechanic said it must be a different model. Now actually, I don't think he really knew this. Just thought it didn't work.

This is the video I am referring to:
2011 Volkswagen bluetooth phonebook voice command fix (9W7) « Ask a VW salesguy's Blog

It has the 9w7 code, and looks and works the same, and uses the MFD voicedial button. I am fairly sure this is the same model of Bluetooth in Australian MY11 cars..... so why can't I make it work?????

I used my VCDS cable to look at the coding of the steering wheel (button only mutes currently) but couldn't find any docs on how to code this to change it. Anyone else got any ideas?

Correct that you can't use the iPhone voice control with the VW bluetooth unit.

He's wrong on that one. I have the VW bluetooth 9W7 with the RCD510 (not the nav, just the radio) and I can use Voice Recognition. You press the steering wheel button then say "Call John" and it calls John. It's not that bad.

The coding is a bit convoluted. You need to enable the telephone in the central electronics section, then enable it again in the steering wheel section, then go into the telephone section and do stuff there, and then go into the radio and do more stuff. From the instructions I worked from:

‐Please recode the module 77 telephone:
    VW Golf/Jetta (1K9) / VW Passat (3C9) / VW Tiguan (5N9)/ Scirocco (13): 0A01000000010110 ( English )
‐Please recode module 19 Gateway: Please find 77 telephone and activate it
To enable the voice dialing, (key microphone of the steering wheel) in some cases it’s necessary recoding of Channel 16 Steering wheel, 07 in the recoding function will change the value of the digit in the position of the question 018?040000 if there is a 2 in this case we must change for a letter “A”.

    Bluetooth VW RNS 510 9W7 UHV/RSAP AD2P / 5K0035730 !!! - eBay (item 320657744680 end time Mar-17-11 02:26:50 PDT) which looks to be newer and cheaper?

So, does anyone know the difference/s?
Looks like the BT controller has a different SKU than that of the polish one?

    Which one would you get?
I am leaning towards the spainish guy because he has the plug and pray wiring harness included?

    Any suggestions?
    Hi guys,

Picking up my GTI in a couple of weeks and am hoping to get bluetooth installed. I'm also planning to buy the RNS-510 sometime soon but have no idea which kit would be more suited to the RNS-510 in terms of microphone preparation. Will either of these kits mic work without any mods or will I have to splice wires If I get one and not the other.

Also would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me with the install and coding as I'm not that confident in ripping my car apart. Happy to reimburse for your troubles.

    Cheers

    Hey mate

Either of the kits would be fine for the mic fitment. The only reason you'd need to cut wires is if your GTI already has voice recognition and a mic in place, then you can choose to cut wires like I did rather than the hassle of running the mic cable (I judged it to be less effort).

Depends where you are in Sydney, but I might be able to help you out.

    Cheers

nhand42 - Fantastic! You are the first person which can acknowledge it is possible. Is there any more details how about how to do it than the summary you have provided above? I have researched via the VCDS tweak thread, and found a good guide http://www.carsystems.pl/media/instr...oth%20v1.4.pdf - is this what you used?

That guide is heaps better than the instructions I worked from. Very comprehensive.

I wouldn't worry about the coding too much. The VCDS tweaking is the least difficult bit of the installation.

Ahh, if only it were true. I tried a couple of days ago, and in short, reality in my car is a lot different from the guide. I guessed the first two...
    Controller by Controller:
77 - Telephone: totally different coding; VCDS does show a box with Byte 1 and dropdown box (01 Inactive, Active (partial), Active). I choose the fully active option
16 - Steering wheel. Different module detail number; coding quite different. Bit 3 of byte 1; tick box for multi function steering wheel with PTT installed (I ticked it)
19 - CAN Controller - no change made: VCDS says "limited information available for this control Module...."

Now the Bluetooth module was factory installed, so perhaps the CAN controller is correctly setup. HOwever, can't be sure. It works, but no voice dialling.

Post changes listed above, the microphone / PTT button does not mute, but it doesn't do anything else either (sigh). FYI, I checked the model number of the bluetooth module, it is a 7P6 035 730 B which I understand is the MY11 module; so no surprises there. Not quite sure what else to do until someone else gets this going (FYI, I have screenshots if anyone is interested).

If there's already a mic there, why do you need to replace it?
Can't one use the existing one?

    Thanks
