VW CRAFTER headunit upgrade......no power

So I bought this unit from Alibaba.com



US$405.

Arrived within a week, communication great, unit packaged great.

Install was very easy, straight plug and play.....or so I thought.

It will not power up

Checked all the obvious stuff.
Power at the plug
Fuse Ok in headunit
Tried old headunit back in, that works fine.

Pluging this one in results in a few faint clicks then nothing.

Now I know VWs can be funny when it comes to upgrading electrical components, is there anything I should be doing / trying?

Something simple perhaps!

These are pretty much the only plugs you have to connect....I would have thought




I even tried using the ANT C wire as a trigger to switched 12V but no luck

It maybe a faulty unit. I would contact the seller. What year is the Crafter?

Can you ask a professional Car A/V shop technician to install ?

Things not so easy . Inner Must connect Can-bus BOX

We hope not Burn any cables .

Please ask VW Car Shop technician to install who before Installed many Car DVD

But im thinking

1. Faulty unit
2. Some sort of conflict / change to the system is not allowing it to start up

I know nothing about installing radios......but I had a thought...... Do cd/dvd players have a lock for transportation purposes?
If yes, has it been removed/unlocked? Could that stop the unit powering up?

Yes they do.

2 screws in the top to stop the CD / Lazer mechanism getting damaged.

But yeah wouldn't stop it powering up.

Where does the purple and white twisted pair plug into? Looks like it is hanging loose. IIRC from my investigations (for a MkV) the twisted pair is the Can Hi/Lo signal, and that shoudl connect to the canbus controller.

Has it working

I have'nt asked how yet, but he has tapped into something around the ignition plug by the looks.

So anyway.

The headunit is all in and working.

He used the purple and white wire off the red box above to tap into ACC power and bypass the factory computer....apparently.

Units fantastic though, great interface.




PIP function is great, you can have the Sat Nav up with the radio controls, or DVD or whatever.

It has a built in Hard drive to rip music to plus all the usual features, Bluetooth, reverse camera etc etc

Plus a quality VW feel to the switches.

Not bad for $405 US
