    VW 9W7 Bluetooth issue

I know I suppose to post in the one and only Bluetooth thread, but I did it and I didn't get any answer.

I have RNS-510 and 9W7 Bluetooth installed in my car. When I get in my car my iPhone 5 connects automatically as a phone AND as a media player (using A2DP).

Here comes my issue. Because it connects as a media player too, my SMS sound, my email sound and any other sound (except the ringing and speaking) will not go through the BT module and RNS and my phone stays silent. It's a little bit annoying, because if I leave the phone in my pocket for example, I will not hear if I receive a text message. Or for a few days, I had to use the navigation in my iPhone and there was no sound coming out and telling me when to turn, etc.

If I go to the Bluetooth menu in MFD and go to Bluetooth - Media Player - Active Players - My iPhone - Disconnect and I disconnect the media player, then I can hear every sound from my iPhone (text, email, alarm, navigation, etc). My phone stays connected as a phone and I will be still able to receive and start calls through the car BT and audio system. The only problem that I have to do it all the time as my phone connects as a phone AND a media player by default.

    1. Is there a way to configure the 9W7 unit to connect to my iPhone as phone only?
    2. Is there any other way to solve this issue? I couldn't find any setting in the iPhone..
    3. Is it only me or if you have a 9W7 too, do you have the same issue?

This is interesting as I have a similar issue with my Windows Phone. No sounds on incoming txt messages and the txt to voice function of the phone doesn't work. The only time it does is if I happen to be initiating or ending a call and a txt message comes in at that time. So basically when the voice channel is open for another reason.

I've never considered the media player component so I'll see if I have any options. I think Windows Phone just connects both as well.

So within the MFD you can disconnect the device from the media player as you said. There is also the option to delete it but unfortunately it won't let me do that as the phone is connected to. That's a real shame as that would have been an easy fix then.

And then I wouldn't have to post my issue.

From my experience with the 9W7, the only time I get email/sms tones through the car is when I'm streaming music via BT.

Otherwise yeah, I only get ringing through the RNS.

Not ideal, but it hasn't really phased me that much. (Android phone)

My Galaxy S2 and S3 never had these problems, both connect as phone and media player, and all alert sounds come through both the phone speaker and car speakers. Maybe search for an app that has advanced Bluetooth settings/functions if there's nothing in the system settings.
