How did you go with mounting the GPS antena?

    GPS Antenna - Passat installation

Remove light sensor from dash - gently prise up.

    Remove bolt underneath light sensor

Remove dash grill - gently prise up from steering wheel side (four clips) as it has hinged clips on the windscreen side.

Remove front centre air vents - gently prise out

GPS mounted in the dash grill. Antenna cable can then fit between the plastic moulding to the rear of where front centre air vents sit (grey foam strip that cable can be pushed through). No cutting or trimming required.

Cable then drops down into the radio unit space below.

Radio unit removal as previous links:
    - remove face of the two top centre storage compartments (below front centre air vents)
    - remove radio unit surround
    - remove 4 bolts

Grounded the handbrake wire and it fixed the DVD warning. Now it works stationary and moving.

For future reference Passat owners - there is a chassis ground point near the drivers left shin. Remove the front firewall plastic cover (two plastic screws). Remove the centre console "driver's side" side trim (one bolt near firewall, then pull trim downwards). A ground point is then exposed (which already has a ground wire running to it). Undo the nut, add your ground wire, and feed easily back up into radio unit rear.

I quickly dropped the AVC9000 into the Golf this afternoon, and connected the CANBUS plug, the radio antenna (1) as well as connected the REMOTE Lead from the adapter box to the REM lead from the AVC.
The unit powered up OK, but I had NO steering wheel controls functioning.
    Anyone got any ideas?
I would have thought that the CANBUS plug would have carried the Steering wheel button wiring, and was surprised to see a wire from the adapter needing to plug into a wire from the unit.

That is just to get the steering wheel control signal to a different section of the AVC 9000's motherboard etc.

IT wiill not do the up down track buttons but should do mute and volume and source.

Well, Now done the install, and everything seems to sort of function.
Did have one unusual happening though. Just sitting in the car doing some reading of the manual, and lo and behold, the radio stations go into seeking mode, and change. A bit wierd I thought.
Might just be a startup thing, so will monitor it for a few days to see if it settles down.
After a quick phone call to gtimk5 I had enough confidence to rip out the rear of the car and do the camera install.
He was a very great help. Thankyou.

yeah +1 for help from GTIMK5

We had issues with the Cap/diode on our install. Power to/from the camera was dodgy at best and it took a long time to get an image on the screen, then the cap/diode started getting HOT...then went cold, and the system would not produce an image.

Turns out that the diode had blown and the soldering on the cap/diode was dodgy at best. Off to JayCar electronics who were very helpful ("nah...we don't stock that item").

Then to RS (Radio Spares?) @ Osborne Park....they had the capapcitors, but no diodes, have to order them in.

The camera install may be finished when I come home next time.

Anyone with a AVC9000 have issues with STEREO while in Radio mode?
When in the FM band, there always appears MONO against the FM stations. The virtual button on the bottom, where the manual says a "ST"switch should be, has one marked ÄF or TA.
None of these appears to switch between Stereo or Mono.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

From the source menu go into setup, turn RDS to off then go back to the radio and you will see ST, press it to change to stereo Can go back into setup on source screen and turn back on rds if you wish

As explained to me by Polarbear66
