My third attempt this past Thursday again fixed the address book but the sound is still degraded compared to the original RCD510 it sounds flat but still has heaps of power. So it looks like the problem can be solved by using 9w7 "F" version with the original RCD510. Does anyone know why the sound would be so crap, my original system was the Dynaudio 300W Excite. Shouldn't a brand new RCD510 and 9w7 have the same sound quality as my original system?
All I know was the guys selling the 9w7 unit recommended not going with the latest 9w7 unless you had a brand new RCD510. There must be some compatibility issues with the new 9w7 and older head units.

Not sure if this is the cause of the poor audio though.

the RCD510 comes in a few flavors,

    5k0 035 190 (MY11 and previous)
    5k0 035 190A (MY12 onwards)

If you use a current version of the 9w7 you must have at minimum 5k0 035 190A or otherwise the telephone book doesn't work properly. I had been lucky up until recently and never hit the combination issues. Had 5 in a row.

If you have this problem you have two options.

    a) change the 9w7 module out for a early revision (pain in the ass, virtually impossible to source).
    b) change the RCD unit for an A onwards revision. (easy to source, ensure it's A revision at the end of the part number).

Largely, the latter is a better idea as the A revision was overall a smidge nicer sound quality wise.

    I'm inclined to agree with this; my 9W7 is 7P6 035 730 J and RCD510 is 5K0 035 190 B.

    OPTION A)

FS: OEM VW Bluetooth Premium Module Only 5K0 035 730 B

Please don't shoot me as it's on the other place, but these early version modules are rare. Snap this up anyone with BT address book issues.

Thanks for the wealth of info, got to love these forums. I'm still stuck with a supposedly latest RCD510 however the sound is so bad I want my original head unit back. I can live with an garbled address book but not with the muffled sound this unit puts out. I am still puzzled why the sound quality can be so degraded you would think the dealer knows how to install these things.

I bought my type "F" 9w7 bluetooth unit from these guys - Volkswagen | VAG-Navisystems.

It looks like they have "K" units only at the moment but you may want to ask them if they can supply any earlier versions. They also have them available in English here:

Not to doubt their ability, but, I'm almost sure they've not correctly coded the RCD510 for the Dynaudio Amp so the output levels are far too high feeding into the amp.

When you turn on the RCD510, does it show the Dynaudio logo on power on?

I've tried an 7P6 035 730 E revision unit, it has the same problem with non A RCD510. The cure was RCD510 A rev.

What version of RCD510 do you have running there? Can you paste the part number? Mega curious.

The Dynaudio logo comes up it's different to the previous smaller B&W previously larger and in colour. You could be correct about the sound I would say 20% volume on the new system is as loud as 50% volume previously. So there is heaps of power but the sound while not being distorted is best described as flat and muffled not having the range and separation it had before. One thing though the new RCD510 reads the SDD way quicker than the old one, doesn't help when the sound is crap though!
