I had my contacts displayed last name first which annoyed me, I was browsing through the MFD menu and found you can change that easy!

It's under phone-settings-phone book-list then select surname or first name!

    No need for VCDS

Guys, this is great info and I really appreciate all the help. I have another forum member helping with the coding so will give it a try when convenient.

BTW I ordered the Bluetooth unit from Poland and selected an older "J" model (to try and reduce any incompatibility issues. I think they thought they were helping me by sending the latest "L" version instead. At least all of the streaming media functions work (and audio quality is surprisingly good when using MOG)

Have already played with that setting and it didn't help.

Bugger.. Why does there have to be so many variations with this stuff! I think I was just lucky with my choice of headunit and BT module
Fingers crossed I get the voice control function working, I'm not holding my breath

I tried to enable voice control on my RCD510 and 9W7 but it didn't work. Turning bit 1 to ON in module 16 disables the mute button, but doesn't enable voice control. Tapping the button or holding it down does nothing.

I found a setting in module 77 (telephone) that enables voice control as well, but no matter what I set it to, nothing happens.

    Oh well.

The issue of the corrupt address book on the RCD510 is a nightmare for me three times I had the dealer change my RCD510 but I had them remove the new unit twice because while fixing the address book problem the sound is crap compared to my original RCD510 car built week 45 2009. My third attempt this past Thursday again fixed the address book but the sound is still degraded compared to the original RCD510 it sounds flat but still has heaps of power. So it looks like the problem can be solved by using 9w7 "F" version with the original RCD510. Does anyone know why the sound would be so crap, my original system was the Dynaudio 300W Excite. Shouldn't a brand new RCD510 and 9w7 have the same sound quality as my original system?

They have to change a setting in the RCD510's coding to work with the DynAudio amp properly or it'll distort

If you have a Mk5 Golf it's DDP DSP, if its a Mk6 its BAP DSP

Thanks for reply, it's not distorted it just doesn't have the power or depth of sound the original system had. Any one in Sydney who is an expert with checking this out. I am losing faith in the dealer.
