    Upgrading??? RCD310 to RCD500

hi all, hoping someone can tell me how easy it is to replace a RCD310 with a RCD500 into a MkV Pirelli. I bought the car as an exec demo but apparently the stereo was a swap... the dealer has now sent me the original RCD500 and i would like to install this weekend... hoping this doesn't go balls up.

    All suggestions and information welcomed!!!

    Many thanks,

    Don.

    Should be a straight swap.
In case you are not familiar with it, Maverick's brilliant my-gti website has the info you should need.

Should be an easy straight swap (plug and play)
Will need a T20 hex head screwdriver from memory.

This post really did help!!! thanks brimway...

Everything seems to be working well although i am now confused as the RCD500 can now be switched on with no keys in the ignition. This happens after i have pulled up taken the keys out and then hit the power button... is this the usual function of VW stereos?

    Anyone got any advice??

The RNS510 is the same, so it's probably normal.

Yep - radio staying on while keys are still in the ignition, and switching on without keys in ignition is system normal - all good. Will switch off after about 40 minutes anyway, really useful for leaving the kids in the car while you go off to play the pokies
