Upgraded my RNS 510 to FW 2660

I have been reading so much about the new 2660 Firmware, both good things and bad things. However, I noticed that only people who are compulsive fiddlers had problems with the upgrade and usually only aftermarket RNS510. So I took the plunge yesterday and wacked in my burned copy and held my breath as it went through several re-starts and blank screens. It took nearly 50 minutes and when it finished, it turned itself off. I sat there for a minute and then pressed the on button. To my rerlief, the radio started up almost immediately. The screen colours are much better in this version, you can now clearly see which buttons are active. Everything went well. All preset radio stations were still there even the volume settings, fade and tone settings have not been changed. My music is still on the hard drive and my maps have also not been deleted. I am very happy with the upgrade. Some people have reported that their unit does not know where it is when they turn on the unit. I don't have this problem. I have tried a SDHC 32GB card and it works well. The reversing screen is now a dual screen ie it has both camera and optical display on the left hand side. This is much better. I love it. All steering wheel controls still work. My bluetooth also still works. It is a perfect upgrade. I also have the secret menu activated now.
Now I need to get me a VAGCOM cable to get voice control working.

Brilliant, this is what i have been after. Do you find the start-up sequence any quicker? One annoying feature I have found is that when starting cold buy the time the VW startup screen has come on I could have left and be on my way!

    What's the secret menu?

Where did you get the disc from? I would love to be able to do the upgrade

Apom, yes the start-up is a little quicker but not instant. You gotta give silicone time
I just downloaded the files from this website and followed their instructions. Good Luck mate. Its worth it.

The secret menu is the second menu you get after holding the setup button in keep holding after the first menu appears, about 15 sec.

I downloaded the firware upgrade from the above link and tried to update my factory fitted RNS510. What I got was a message Software downgrade error (010304)
Target loaded with Media Version -4764901
    Inserted Media Version -4764901
So it seems to indicate to me that I have the same version installed as I tried to load, but reading thru a lot of posts on this site I should be able to read SD cards SDHC up to 32 GB but all I can read is SD of 2GB and I don't have the clock display or updated HDD display
    Can anyone explain this.
PS I have a MY10 R36 with factory fitted RNS510 reversing camera and Standard bluetooth.

Strange... Do you have access to VAGCOM to enable the test menu? If you do, then you will be able to see what software version is currently loaded.

No I don't. Is it readily available and how much can you get it it for. Thanks Graeme
