    Under Powering A Sub

    Hey Guys,

This arvo I picked up a new Alpine Type S Sub (sws-1223-d) in a Box and a Pioneer Amp from JB Hi-Fi. The amp is the smaller entry level Pioneer unit GM-3300T. the Guy at JB Hi-Fi said that the Amp is good enough to run the Sub. As you can see the set up is all entry level gear.

I have since read in this forum that underpowering subwoofers can damage them? Is this amp underpowering for the sub i have bought? Or should i return the AMP and grab something like the Alpine MRP-M500 and take little more damage to the hip pocket!

What i was after was some cleaner punchy type bass that didnt take up all of my boot. I definitely dont want competetion type SPL sound...just enoogh for me to enjoy whilst driving!

    your thoughts?

Under power, over power both can damage your sub if abused. Just get your gains set by a pro ( i.e. not JB ) and see how you go. It's just stupid people pushing their gear beyond their limits since they cut corners.
Bora has gone ;( Custom sub box and beige floor mats to suit for sale.
