Trying to complete rvc retrofit in Tiguan with rns510..

..almost there..

All wiring complete, handle/camera installed and coding done.

I have power to handle (blue wire from reverse light, and orange wire from positive at wiring harness at unit). I have also confirmed I have power to all four pins on the video cable at the handle so I am pretty sure all wiring is ok.

However what I am seeing when I put the car in reverse is simply a black screen with the grey lines and icons, plus the graphic of the car with the ops all working fine on the left hand side of the screen.


From a previous post aussietig mentioned:

"NOTE: To test properly, requires a quick drive in reverse and engine started.
I made the mistake of assuming seeing a black screen on the display as meaning something was wrong.
The black screen is actually the RVC in sleep/standby mode and needs to wake up with some speed/movement in reverse gear."


I have driven half way around Melbourne in reverse thinking this might get the unit out of sleep mode without any resolution.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get this job finished?

Make sure you take the dust cap off the lens if you haven't remembered to do that one already....

Otherwise I would be checking that you have power to the camera when you're in reverse gear. Check the voltage on the connectino to the camera. If you've taken a connection off the reverse wire make sure you've taken the positive rather than ground. I would sugest if you're not seeing anything that you may not have the power wired correctly.

If the screen is going black and you have lines then programming appears to be all OK. Just looks like you're not getting the image.

Yep..had that little sucker in my pocket most of the time..thanks tigger73

tried everything at least twice..cancelled coding, recoded, pulled wires, rewired..thinking maybe I have a dodgy camera..anyone know how to check it?
