    Speed Limits in Columbus (RNS510)

I have a columbus on version 4120 in an octavia. There is an option to "show speed limitation", turning this on does not seem to do anything, there are never speed limits shown anywhere on the system.

Anyone know if this is possible or do I need to update the firmware? Is there one out there that has correct speed limits programmed?

Also related, the estimated time of arrival is WAY off. I took a trip that is normally about 4-5 hours, the columbus was estimating around 7 hours even with the average speed calc set to "fastest".

Speed limitation possibly refers to the speed where you are as in the speed zone.

My 510 in the Passat shows the 110 kph zone going down to the Gold Coast as a 120kph zone so hope new maps fix that.
Dont know about the other as I have never used it knowingly

My Tomtom in the Polo is pretty accurate with time to arrival but then it is a quality $300 unit against the $3000 VW RNS510 boat anchor

Yeah, the description in the manual says it should show the speed limit for the current section of road with this option on. Mine definitely doesn't show any speed limits, makes me wonder how it is calculating ETA given that it is so far off. My old tom tom used to get the ETA correct to nearly the minute.

I've seen screen shots of an RNS with the speed limit showing in the top right under the compass, mine doesn't seem to though. Pretty annoying that the ETA is so unreliable, I haven't noticed it being that bad before now around town, but on long trips the error is exaggerated.

I calculated my own eta driving on hwy an entire trip @100km/h,the eta the columbus calculated seemed to be based on 60km/hr. Anyone else noticed this discrepancy?

I might be wrong here, but I think you need v5 maps, at last, to have the speed limit dispays.

The incorrect speed limits shown on some roads (for those who have it) is an error on the v5 maps. Hopefully it has now been fixed on the v6 map which I understsnd is now out.

Yes ... just beat me to it!

You don't have the map version that has speed limits, being V5 map!

There's an option in Navigation or Setup Navigation to set how it calculates time to distance.
Depending on whether or not you'll be sticking to the speed limits.

Might have to try updating the maps then. I would have thought that being only 3 months old I would have the latest version, my car was only built late last year.

I'm not exactly sure of my version map either, I don't have the full service menu showing - I can only see "4120" under version info so don't know if this corresponds to map V4/5/6 etc.

Version info button on the display, after you hold setup button for about 10 secs does show you map version. Look for CD_7xxx.

    The missing three digits.

Basically V5 map is CD_7679. Any number lower than that is obviously earlier than V5.

    Ok just rechecked:

    Delivery Part Number: 3T0035680B
    HW Version: H70
    SW Version: 4120
    Map Version HDD: 7492

Doesn't say anything about CD_XXXX etc, maybe columbus is slightly different to VW RNS510.

Guess it is V4 map then. So can anyone with V5 confirm that it gives an accurate ETA or is it no different?

As it is now it is pretty much useless for estimating travel time, would like to improve it.

    7492 or CD_7492 is a V4.1 map!

Have the dodgey brothers made a come back and now selling Skodas?

Sorry to add salt to the wound, but that map was produced:
    Date: 16.2.2011
    db: 2009 (Q4).

    Fcuken 3 year old map!

And you've not noticed occassionally you're driving across large patches of GREEN or BLUE?

I'd definitely ring up their receptionist, JAN and tell her that you're "NOT HAPPY!"

There is a link to the V5 map in the sticky. Download it and try it yourself!

Definitely can't be any worse than your current blast from the past!
