Speaker goes "fududdle duddle" - how on earth do I get to the rear speakers?!?!?!

    Hey guys,

I have this intermittent issue with the left rear speaker. I think it's a loose contact but I cannot for the life of me work out how to get to it! Sound goes from clear and audible to distorted and choppy - even when the radio is off!

Anyone got any advice on how to reach the bugger?

    Cheers,
    Picollo.

If it's a 2-door, then the rear panels pull off.
Remove the seat base, then start pulling the panels inwards from the door opening. All fixings should pop off, apart from the one fixing to the floor. Simply (!) lift up the panel around the fixing. Not too hard, but you may need to move the back of the seat to get the panel off. If you have 2-way speakers (two plastic grilles in the panel, which the GTIs have) then the tweeter is fixed to the panel, not the body. The main speaker is fixed to the body.
