I'm not sure if this has been posted before but here goes. I have just replaced the trailer lights on my box trailer with LEDs. The right one has blinker, light, stop and a white led light for the number plate, the left one has blinker, light, stop and does not have a white led light for the number plate. My issue is - the yellow light on the instrument panel lights up only when I turn on the lights. The lights both come on, on the trailer and the number plate light comes on also. All the lights work perfectly (and also on my wife's Maxima). The warning light does not activate when I put on blinker, hazard or stop. As soon as I put on the lights, on comes the yellow dash light. The message on the panel says check right trailer light and another saying check left trailer light. Here is my question, Part 1 - because the voltage/current (I'm not that technical on the terms here) is different on the R and L lights does the car think there is an issue. Part 2 - can I fix the problem by adding a lead from the Left Light (brown wire) and connecting it to another white trailer light coming from the left light lead? (I would have to buy a single white light LED and put it on the other side of the number plate).
I hope I haven't made that too confusing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
PS. I didn't try the trailer lights on the VW before I put on the LEDs, stupid I know. We have used the wife's car to drag the trailer around in the past. The LEDs work perfectly on both cars, just the warning light comes on on my VW.
