RVC fitment on RDC510 - $1k worth it?

    Hi folks

Just wanted to know peoples thoughts on $1k quote for fitment of RVC only (excluding RCD device) on a tiguan.

The dealer chucked in a RCD510 unit at no cost as part of our deal when we signed up for tiguan.
Until joining this forum i had no idea what it was. When i asked about installing an RVC at the same time and cost we were quoted $1k.

I seen some of the how-to's and pretty confident ill break something in the process which is why iam avoiding it.

    thanks.

RVC fitment on RDC510 - $1k worth it?

If you don't feel confident pulling wires through the cabin the speak to JKU and he has installers in most states who will do this type of work.

The parts themselves should be less than $200 if you just want the basic camera (no moving lines).

I've done this install in the Tiguan and although a little fiddly ( pulling cable through the rubber connector for boot hinge) it wasn't too bad. All up took half a day for a first time install.

I would be checking that the RCD510 they are giving you has the connector for RVC. Not all of them do and this may be part of the cost right here if they have to upgrade the RVC unit.

I assume that's for the lowline version (doesn't have bendy guide lines on the display depending on steering wheel angle)

I have an OEM Tiguan RVC lowline camera and all cabling lying around if you need one. $200 plus shipping.

Expect a competent installer to take maybe 3-4 hours to install as cable needs to be run from the head unit under a lot of trim and through to the disassembled boot trim.
So somewhere around the $600 mark all up you could have it done.
Just let us know where you are and I'm sure someone can recommend a local installer.

So $1k is not out of the ordinary, as the camera itself is ~$450, likely more from the dealer.

Whether or not its worth it can only be determined by you

thanks for replies folks - im based in sydney and will do a search around for installers

will also search on identifying what rcd unit (to confirm if it has the rvc connector) this is without having to pull it out

You can get a scan with VCDS to determine the part number and that will tell you if its Delphi or Bosch

Just be aware that Bosch also make non-RVC versions so you have to be a little careful. It may just be quicker to pull the unit out and have a look. Have a look on youtube as there's some DIY videos - it's pretty simple.

    Hi Guys,

I got quoted $1200 for the rvc on a golf gti mk6 (the one under the badge).

Could you please recommend someone in the Brisbane area that could maybe install it for cheaper?

Liquidforce does them for less than that and I have seen a genuine one on Ebay for about $550-600

To work out which RCD you have, hold down the setup button and in the info section, if it ends in B its not camera compatible... If it ends in A or no letter, it should have a camera connection

Really interested to see what unit they fit all new Bosch unit have no RVC input and the Delphi unit's I think don't support the 9w7 telephone
That you will have fitted as standard
