    Factory Fitted RNS510 Question

Hi there, I have an MY11.5 Golf R that has the RNS510 factory fitted unit. I just tried to use a 16GB SDHC card and it didn't work, so I started questioning whether I had the latest firmware/hardware version of this. I also noticed that the latest firmware of the RNS510 shows speed limits on the SatNav which mine doesn't do, so further evidence that I may not have the latest - seems a bit strange seeing as mine would have rolled off the production line around November / December time?

Is there an easy way to check the version, and if I am a downgraded level, is it straight forward to sort out?

    Thanks.

Just search through the existing threads, I'm sure that there are threads with the similar question. From my memory SD card has to be properly formated and try to put your songs in SD card root directory (no folders) just to test it. I use 2GB SD card in our RCD510 it worked right from the start.

Maybe some one with more knowledge can help out here.

Have you got the star button on the top right of the unit ?
I pulled mine out to install a bluetooth behind it and the build date on mine was Feb 11 - so brand new.
I put a 32Gb in and it played fine - but you have to follow the instructions for folder naming - otherwise it wont recognise any content.

love your signature - "still giggling like a child when I drive it!" - Im the same and I've 'just' got the Polo TSI

Unit == hardware. Firmware = software. So we're talking the firmware, right?

Actually, firmware is the information burned into the hardware — what makes it wake up and take notice — in your computer it's called BIOS.

Software is maps etc., which won't work without the firmware.

Firmware is still software. It's just typically stored in non-volatile memory and used to control hardware devices. It's a slightly fuzzy term, but it's still just zeros and ones. It's not "burned in" - it's stored in persistent storage. Sometimes it cannot be removed, depending on the device.

Not that I'm being pedantic or anything.
