I would love more info, I am located Sydney and would appreciate any help getting map and firmware updates for RNS510
hi all, I have an RNS510 fitted in my Seat Leon and am looking to change the startup screen to the Seat one. The netdata site that I see people used to use is sadly long gone, does anyone have a means of generating an .iso file for the Seat boot screen?
I would love more info, I am located Sydney and would appreciate any help getting map and firmware updates for RNS510
Read the first post in this thread then. Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ
As this unit is now old hat most have moved on.
5238 is last firmware and last map is available only from eurocarupgrades for about $155

Longshot here but any help or pointing in a direction to read more would be amazing! Tried @buckets from page 1 but hasn't been online since 2017, no amount of google searching has helped so far. New to Volkswagen, 1st time after having BMW's.
Have an RNS510 in a '10 Passat R36 that doesn't have bluetooth. Failing to get the Aux-in to work, have tried different devices, different files (mp3 and streaming), different cables etc. Aux-in has been turned on in system settings of the RNS.
Have an MDI in the glovebox compartment it appears (square 10 port plug, assume i need an adapter here?).
Is the issue the headunit is picking up this Input over the AUX and it needs to be switched over in the VCDS? Or if not, are there other options like updating to bluetooth (preferred) or simply getting an MDI to USB adapter and connecting my android that way?
Huge thanks in advance!
Thanks so much , my head unit is doing a restart reboot think firmware might be the fix
Hi,
The RNS510 on my Passat stopped booting up and is currently in an indefinite loop of trying to boot and constantly failing. Nothing is displayed on screen backlight come up momentarily, with some intermittent display of thin white line across the screen. Occasionally the red backlight on the buttons also does come up for 1-2 seconds.
Below are the details of the head unit:
RNS-510 (1T0 035 680 T)
HW: H27
SW: 6276
Things I have tried but haven’t found any success:
1. holding down the 3 buttons to perform a reset. No luck the device does not stay powered ON long enough.
2. Firmware reload (download the same firmware burnt on a disk) insert and try but again no luck
3. Disassemble the unit check for any unusual or blown component. Reassemble and test no luck.
Please suggest if there is something else, I can try before giving up.
Alternatively thinking to replace the RNS-510 either with a aftermarket (like some Pioneer,Apine, etc.) or get one of the NoName RCD head units of Ebay.
Many Thanks in advance
I have seen a ton of these units start to die now; pretty sure the HDD is failing in them, spinning disks only last so long.
So either you can upgrade the HDD to an SSD using johnc's guide RNS-510 HDD replacement/SSD swap DIY
Or upgrade to a more capable unit.

Only sensible solution is a new unit as maps etc are no longer current so they are good for a doorstop and not much else. Most people on here have moved on to later and better?? units

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
Hi,
I have a Skoda Superb 3T with Columbus (RNS510) and the upgraded Canton sound system. While it still works fine, I'm considering replacing the RNS510 with something else before it begins to fail. Also, having driven newer cars, I have developed Android Auto envy
So the question is, does anyone know of any good threads, guides on replacement options?
I have found a lot of articles but the few that discuss the amp used in my Skoda point out that it relies on CANBUS for controls which complicates integration with other sound systems.
The best system in terms of proper full OEM integration including support for the factory amp is the Discover Media PQ.
For Skoda this was only ever available in the 2016 Yeti so they are rare as hen's teeth.
You can use a VW system which are much easier to get hold of if you can handle red backlighting on the buttons and the wrong font. Can load the Skoda HMI so it has the right logos and graphics etc.
Otherwise you can use aftermarket systems, just need to use line out converters to send the correct line level outputs to the amp.
