RNS510 - Steering Wheel Control of Track Changes on iPod and HDD

    Hi

I'm new to the forum being a proud new owner of a Mk6 Golf GTI. Wondering if someone can help.

I have the RNS510 installed with the Media In iPod cable attached but am not able to change tracks on either the iPod or HDD media devices using the steering wheel controls. It works OK from the head unit itself. The left and right buttons on the left side of the steering wheel do nothing (and I might add nor does the voice activated button on the steering wheel).

I saw something on this site about vagcom and code 37 (but that's too technical for me) and a recent cnet review clearly set out that the RNS510 had that functionality, but the dealer tells me the buttons can only change radio stations. Bit bizarre to me - I have just come out of a Mazda which has had that capability for 5 years, and more.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thats a complete load. How was the RNS510 supplied? Was it from the dealer, ebay/diy or factory?

I had this problem initially when I first put in an RNS510 into my Polo after putting it into my mates MK5 Golf. What you/your dealer need to do is to check that the coding of the RNS510 is correct with VCDS. Two options should be selected...

Thanks. The unit was dealer installed - as part of pre delivery. You'd think they'd know what they had to do to configure the unit.

Is there anything I can do, or does it require VCDS/special equipment?

You need the VCDS or similar.
