Hi guys,
needing to get in contact with someone who can repair my rns510.
it all works manually, but when my local dealer and a Vw repair shop
attenpted to communicate with it, the unit is not there. My Amarok
previous units work no problem but this one doesn't. So any help would be ace!
cheers!

What do you mean "works manually".
Is this a new install?
On one hand I assume the dealer is smart enough to deal with a miscoded RNS unit, on the other hand ... well I've seen some crazy things.

When I meant it works manually, I mean you turn it on via the button on the unit when you get in the car and turn it off before you get out. My Bluetooth works to the car, but not to the rns510. So consiquently, nothing comes through the speakers. I can't control the unit via the steering wheel controls either.
AFAIK it *should* be a drop in replacement, the only difference that I am aware of with coding is that it can use the MFD (if it's one of the white dot jobs) to show directions and you get the compass in the corner... Otherwise it *should* just work.
Here's hoping it's a coding issue and not a dud unit. Where did you get it?

Yeah my thoughts exactly... I got it from a wrecker in Sydney. Problem is, they are happy to refund, but that leave a hole in my dash as I have sold the RCD that I had in it. I'm sure it will be an easy fix for a person that knows how to talk to these units. I just have to get it to that person..
I have a spare RCD or two in the garage, I think I have the code for one, but not the other (although I still have both cars so it should be easy enough to get if it's needed).
One never left the showroom floor, the other got to my house before being replaced
Mind you, if it's working maybe that buys you a little bit of time to find a replacement (as long as the place is happy to have it returned eventually?? What's their warranty period?).
Personally I'd consider one of the Android based units if I was starting from scratch again... the RNS is nice and all, but gee it's getting dated and doesn't do half of what a modern nav unit will.

Yeah I hear ya! But I'm a fan of genuine product. I was a Vw parts interpreter for 6 years... I spoke to dean at Vw central, and he gave me a few things to check. Hopefully those things are my issue. However he said he can book me in to suss it out if it's none of my "to check" things..
I like genuine too but there are plenty with an OEM look... I've also got a Pioneer in the Multivan which is alright, not quite OEM, but it's fooled a few people thanks to the minimalist VW splash screen on boot and the colour matched LED's behind the buttons (you can customise them yourself in the settings).
I don't know that I would recommend the Pioneer as it's just as limited as the RNS... but it was my only option at the time.

So I've searched the garage to find the original and put that in the hole. RCD210. I dropped it off at VW central or Auto modelist I think is thier other trading name. He's going to open it up and have a crack at fixing it. Really cool dude, fingers crossed he can work some magic on it!
