What I meant by that is using the Iphone cable plugged to the unit to make/receive phone calls... can this be done?

No, this is an apple limitation as they don't allow phone calls to go over the physical connector only via bluetooth.

*nod* fiscon shows a new entry if a contact has multiple numbers, e.g. home, mobile etc...

Do you know if that's with the iphone? I tried a few alpine kits when I had the alpine gear and they sucked with the phones i had and didn't work at all.
So far the Skoda Integrated kit is awesome.
