I heard Jay What'sHisName talking about V3 maps (and features about motorway speed limits being shown on the screen) in a video on his Ask-a-VW-Sales-guy channel. This led me to belive that V3 was already available... maybe not in Australia yet. Or maybe I'm confusing map data and firmware.

I doubt V3 of maps gets released worldwide as maps are a localised thing..

Dash GPS - Whereis Maps - Sensis
They have electronic updates for V16 sensis maps for many cars except VW
    from the sensis website

What's changed since the previous version?

Please note: Inclusion of features may vary by in-car and portable satellite navigation manufacturer, depending on their data specification.

Whereis® Version 16 (Aust) map data includes:

Road data current to the 2008 UBD releases
99% coverage of the Australian population
Improved rural road coverage providing improved navigation to rural addresses
More than 13,000 km of new roads
Over 610,000 points of interest including:
More than 7,900 banks and ATMs
    More than 6,700 petrol stations
More than 14,000 hotels and motels
    More than 30,000 restaurants
    Major new roads including:
Eastlink, Pakenham Bypass, Dandenong Southern Bypass, Deer Park Bypass in VIC.
Lane Cove Tunnel, Tugun Bypass, Albury Wodonga Bypass in NSW.
D’aguilar Highway Exit, Caloundra - Mooloolaba Road in QLD.

The update price for the V16 to buy for a Range Rover or Discovery is $295 same price if its for the Jaguar as well haven't tried others.
Seems VW is lagging a bit

I asked the dealer about V3 maps and got a reply saying that the maps are still under trial and have not been released and that ifits not released by the time i get the car (which is now saturday!) then the only way i will get a free upgrade is if the RNS fails and they have to reload maps..:|

Looks like im going to end up with the crappy v2 maps!

They aren't that crappy at all, most of the updates listed for Qld already are included in the V2 (V15) maps, just some added features. It just seems that if Sensis offer them at $295 for an update to many car manufacturers then is VW price gouging to get an additional $800-1000 from us.

And they wonder why people go with aftermarket support rather than the OEM units.
I would really only "need" the nav-assitstance (currently using a street dirctory) probably 3-4 times a year so I see no point in having to shell out 1k per year to upgrade the maps.

There are other ways just give it time.

surely there are other means of obtaining the new maps?? 1200 is out of the question. If it was 200 then ok i could justify it!

I would like to know who actually and has ever paid for an upgrade? A year later it's old and your wallet is 1200 lighter. Just wait till it comes out at least.

After getting no where with my local dealer and VW Australia regarding SDHC problems and the Version 2 map I have lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading: Homepage
It's easy to to do, and perhaps if enough of us complain VW will do something...
