If you can drive to SYD after 22 march , i can help to coding your RNS510.
Hi All,
So today I installed my sat-nav, which went well, considering i've used a screwdriver maybe twice in my life before. Actually I lied, i accidently seperated the trim and the central air vents which led to a series of problems which ended up with a few parts down under the head unit (unreachable and unseeable) and the central vents taken out. I guess at this point I will have to take it to VW to re-install these vents (thus making my DYI install almost utterly useless except for the satisfaction of doing it myself).
On top of this, on start-up...It asked me for the 4-digit pin, which I immediately realised I had left it stuck on top of the RNS510 unit.
So, dismounted everything again and put it all together, by this time it only took me 15 minutes afer I had become confident with the clips.
I became SO confident that I forgot to re-attach the sensor cable, so again had to undo a few clips and plug it back in.
Upon completion I realised that the satnav hasn't got Aussie maps..I went back to the ebay auction and realised that indeed it did not come with the Aussie maps, not sure why I thought it would come as standard as it was from the U.K.
Is there anyone in Melbourne that would be able to help me out with the map install and the Vag-com coding? I'm willing to pay, just want to complete everything and have my car in fully automatic mode.
Cheers,
CSR

I have VAG-COM if you know the codes......I'm in the eastern subrbs.
whereabouts are you located?
1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro
I'm in the southeast suburbs, I got in touch with "a friend of a friend" who will help me re-fi the central air vent in and may be able to provide me with the maps as well, will find that out on Friday.
Sent you a PM IN2VWS![]()

Ok, time for an update.
This morning I went to Barloworld VW in Glen Waverley and got the V3 maps fitted and the RNS510 coded for free, as my friend is a very good customer of theirs and they took care of me on his request.
Unfortunately, the guy couldn't get the navigation display onto my MFD. I did some research and linked it to this "CAN-BAP Protocol" coding that needs done. Also he said there were fault codes with the amp and speakers, I assume this is linked to the "factory amp settings" requiring an output change. I also assume this is the reason the sound quality is so poor when I plug in the AUX and play music from my ipod.
As for the centre air vent issue, it is a real set-back in my 'cost savings'. While i'd still be in front it is just a kick in the crotch that they asked for $208 for the two centre vents, not including installation, all because i'm an idiot and lost those two little plastic bits.
Apparently they're spot welded which would make sense because I tried to get one vent on with the two plastic bits I had remaining, and it was very loose and hard to put in (I wasn't able to do it).
The moral of the story is, I could have gone to VW, paid $150 and gotten the thing installed, maps put in and fully coded without any issues. Now I have to pay $208 and achieve the same thing with hours of time wasted....
The silver lining is at least I got to see the receptionist there who is SMOKING hot and made me a much-needed coffee.
This arvo I turned on the car and the MFD showed the navigation...Like magic..strange that it didn't when I got out of the dealership, he couldn't work it out either!
Before you fork out $208 check this site, much cheaper and OE
TM TUNING - your connection for European aftermarket and OEM VW and Audi parts
Thanks...!
I did have a look at some of the OEM parts suppliers but couldn't find the centre air vent trim by itself...Looks like this'll be my next purchase.
