The freeze happened to me before when I was loading a SD card. Same thing, couldn't get it to respond no matter what, even a reset did not help. I just switched off everything, locked the car and came back to check after a while, everything's back to normal. Hasn't happened again.

Hey Tux, the same thing has happened to me in my new GTI (2mnths old). No problems initially and then in last 2 wks I've had the screen remain on with audio going, after switching off car and exiting. Tried switching off numerous times and then was running late for a meeting so had to go. When I came back hrs later it was still on and radio still playing. Weird ! . Then next thing that happened was the map freezing and at other times since then, not even coming on at all ... just blank !

I just called Camberwell VW where I purchased to get it looked at, but have to wait 2 wks now before anybody can see it which is pretty ordinary service.

Any further experiences or fix ideas on this would be appreciated. I will try the "reboot" suggested above by BlackSuperb. cheers.

PS. I guess this is the new world of technology that is pervasive now in auto that we all need to get used to. I work in the IT industry and the amount of variables for things to go wrong with SW bugs and ongoing patches etc. is a nightmare to deal with and costs businesses a fortune every year. Pervasive technology everywhere in our cars and homes now is just going to increase. That old joke about Bill Gates and the Auto companies and having to ctrl-alt-delete to get your car going again is not as funny anymore as it sounded then ... it's almost a reality now !

The 'freeze' hasn't happened to my system since so I can't help I'm afraid. As I posted earlier, when I returned to the car I found it had switched off of it's own accord. If it happens again I'll try the soft reset though.

Have had this exact problem. My GTI is 6 weeks old. Happened when inserting an SD card into the RNS 510 about 4 weeks ago. Froze and I had to do the reboot method listed above. Nothing else worked. Hasn't happened since. I guess quite a few of us have had this.
