I'm game(ish). Put me down for the 9th copy
Hi All,
Whilst there is no compelling reason to upgrade to 5238 firmware for the vast majority of users, some people (myself included) just can't get enough of the thrill of a pointless upgrade and the associated risk of a failed upgrade
If anyone is interested in doing some testing please PM me. I think it best we do some 'beta' testing prior to just putting it out there as being the internets, these things move pretty quickly.
Only thing I have noticed is a slightly different OPS graphic (smaller graduated regions). I have actually noticed some improvement in the TTS, with no incidence of 'dummy' which I was still getting for some towns with 4120....also re-routing appears to be faster, but have not done any scientific tests. Probably just the upgrade placebo effect.
The fw iso has been modified for our 90/5/5 partition ratios so if you are already setup that way you will not lose music or maps. Also has the usual VIM, secret menu and no need for recoding.
First 10 testers get a free set of steak knives*.

If 5238 is the same as 5218, then I can vouch that there's absolutely not much difference, other than the placebo of owning a P unit.
Have been using 5218 for a while now, albeit without the larger re-partition:
New firmware for RNS510/Columbus versions 4120 and 5210
But had VIM and secret menu enabled.
Still get the occasional 'dummy' city.

5218 is not a final release so there may be some minor differences.
Only one way to find out...

I have 5218 with VIM and reset my DVD to region 0. It would be nice to change the split to 90/5/5 though. I am game my unit is a recent production so should not have any issues.

FWIW, no noticeable difference so far between 5218 and 5238.
But obviously thanks Kamold for the re-partition nevertheless.

I installed this firmware. Advantages are that it was set to English, more music space, still has vim and diagnostics activated. DVD set to region 4 instead of 2 with my 5218 FW. The only thing I will change is DVD to region 0 as the kids have some USA DVDs.
