    RNS 510 Version Help

    Hey guys,

I'm a newbie here. I just want to confirm without pulling out the headunit or plugging in a VAG-Com unit in (which I don't have access to) what version of RNS 510 I have. It's a MY09 VW Golf GTI MkV Pirelli Edition. I'm looking at installing a Fiscon BT kit and RNS-510 Voice control. I have been told that the voice control only works with the later Version C units with 2660 firmware upgrade. Is it possible to get voice control in my car?

    Your expertise is much appreciated.

    Cheers

The unit can probably tell you which version it is (in 2009, most likely B.) The details can be accessed through the setup menu — unfortunately I forget exactly how, but it isn't difficult (can't be — I've done it...)

The procedure has been posted — try a search here and on Google.

No experience with voice control, but it pre-dates the C units.

Thanks Idle, yeah i've tried to access the version info that someone posted up on another forum. But it didn't work, apparently its a bit of a hit and miss with some ppl. From memory I think you have to reset the head unit and press the setup button, but this did not work for me. Anyone else opinions on this?

Finally remembered how I did it on mine — have confirmed that the "secret menu" still works after the dealer put the V3 maps etc. on it.

Turn the unit on and hold the 'SETUP' button down.

Eventually it will switch to FM — AM — DAB.

Don't release the button yet, continue to hold it down and it will come up with the information you want (probably more than you want... — there's a separate line to bring up each module and up/down arrows where the screen doesn't show all.)

Of course, this is the only unit I've tried it on — other versions may vary.
